The small Amsterdam Museum, located in an historic orphanage has a really good and concise introduction to the history of Amsterdam with a very well thought through interactive tour supplemented by historic paintings and objects. Before you visit the other large museums such as the Rijksmuseum, which can be a bit overwhelming, we recommend you visit this museum first to form a picture of Amsterdam throughout its history.
