A wonderful example of when art and architecture work hand-in-hand. The gallery’s brick exterior is quite reserved, with whited-out windows, but inside is an inspiring four-storey warehouse space that’s a fitting backdrop for the gallery’s breathtaking Chinese art—the contrast is a real surprise. Exhibits change but the scale of the works is always eye-opening. Judith Neilson, the philanthropist behind the gallery, lives down the road in one of the most significant residences Australia has ever produced: Indigo Slam. It’s by the same firm, Smart Design Studio, that designed the gallery, but it’s a sculpture made large—a real contrast. Stroll by afterwards.

The White Rabbit Gallery (was a Rolls-Royce showroom) has four floors of exhibition space as well as a theatrette, a library and a teahouse.
This lovely little gallery is has three floors of amazing Asian art, and a fantastic dumpling and tea room in the bottom floor. It’s a 25 minutes walk from Boronia Street and a must visit!
This is an amazing gallery, my favourite in Sydney, specialising in modern Asian art.
This is an amazing art gallery in Chippendale close to central station. Check opening times before you go though as it is closed on some week days and also closes to set up exhibitions.
Wonderful, marvellous, unique. Ever changing, stunning exhibitions. Free entry with a lovely Tea Salon. The White Rabbit Collection is one of the world’s largest and most significant collections of contemporary Chinese art. Founded by philanthropists Kerr and Judith Neilson, it focuses on works produced after 2000.
