Every spring and fall, the majestic Sandhill Cranes choose JP as a stopover point on their semi-annual migration. At the peak of the migration, you stand in JP's observation area and see over 10,000 of these four-foot-tall birds together in one marshy field. At sunset, the skies are filled with flock after flock, flying in V-formation, coming into the field to nest for the night. It's a must for any nature lover.

Migrating Sandhill Cranes stop over here in the fall for a week during October-November as they travel to Florida for the winter. Masses of cranes "refuel" in the surrounding fields in the area then congregate here at sunset as a huge flock. Amazing sights and sounds!
