Historic Jerome, Arizona was once a booming copper mining town with 15,000 people. It is now America's largest ghost town and tourist attraction. Jerome is located more than 5,000 feet above sea level. It is about 100 miles north of Phoenix. Jerome is very close to Cottonwood, so both towns can be visited at the same trip.

The last hospital built when the mines were operational. One person died every day on average in that era, lending the "ghost city" reputation for this incredibly unique town. The decor is reminiscent of the movie "The Shining". The most expensive suite was the operating room. Check out the old lift and switchboard in the lobby. Lots of stories of the building being haunted. They discourage joyrides on the old elevator, but I always take visitors down from the restaurant level without issue. The Asylum is the hotel restaurant and has great food. Incredible views, particularly summer sunsets. Also, the bar makes an awesome Bloody Mary.

The Asylum restaurant located in the Grand Hotel is an excellent restaurant with great views. It is a beautiful old historic and actually used to be an asylum during the early 1900's.
