This special place has an atmosphere all of its own. When you descend into the earth, with the haunting sound of monks singing, you can feel the weight of centuries of Dunfermline’s history. St Margaret’s Cave is situated in the car park whose entrance is in Chalmers Street, opposite the main entrance

A great thing to do on a rainy day.

This is the cave where she gave out food to the poor

St Margaret was a hugely influential figure within Scottish history, and we're lucky enough to be living close to one of her regular haunts. The cave is rather oddly on the fringes of a car park, but don't let that deter you as the cave itself is reached via a fascinating walk down through displays detailing her life. The cave itself is quite beautiful. And visiting it is free!
