Chemainus, known locally as "the little town that did" is worth a trip ... but do take the back roads of Richards Trail to get there (which I think is the prettiest road in the world!). Chemainus has found fame and fortune with its vast collection of murals most of which depict days of old with huge steam engines, logging machinery and various pioneering ways of earning a tough living. There are some quaint coffee shops, and places to acquire souvenirs (if you are still collecting?). Sometimes in the summer one can catch a horse and buggy tour about the village or you can follow the yellow feet painted on the side walk. A great afternoon outing.

Love to look at the murals painted on the walls, they are all over the place!. The Chemainus Murals have inspired communities throughout the world to explore their roots, to beautify their towns, and instill pride. Using the Chemainus model, some communities have used the mural concept to develop their own revitalization for stronger economic development.
