Ancient City of Thakan offers visitors to walk into its 1000s of years history. The City was founded in ancient Mon Hariphunjaya kingdom and has been continually used though Lan Na period, Burmese occupation period, renaissance Lan Na period until the present day. Ruins temples scatter around this ancient town where the city moat and remains of city earthen wall and entrance still can be witnessed.

Wiang Tha Khan is a group of ancient ruins and moats. Located in Ban Klang. Sanpatong Chiangmai Province Lamphun city and downtown Chiang Mai to the southwest about 15 and 30 km respectively. Created around the 13th century in the reign of King Rama V. King of the Kingdom of Haripunchai. There is evidence in the first historical document called "Ban Taka" built to the outpost of Haripunchai Kingdom. Later it was up directly to the Phaya Mung Rai of Lanna Kingdom. As a city, food supplies, food and buildings, walled city and a moat surrounded by a rectangle of 500 meters wide and 700 meters wide covering an area of about 60 acres, has been registered by the Fine Arts Department.

เวียงท่ากานที่ค้นพบนี้เก่าแก่กว่าเวียงกุมกามมากทีเดียว เวียงท่ากาน เป็นเมืองโบราณที่สร้างขึ้นเพื่อเป็นเมืองหน้าด่าน ของอาณาจักรหริภุญชัย หรือลำพูน นั่นเอง
