With spectacular woodwork and an old fashioned elevator with an operator, you will find violin makers, opera teachers, kundalini yogis and more in this building. It’s worth a trip and it’s near Millennium Park.
The Fine Arts Building, located on Michigan Avenue across from Grant Park, is one of Chicago's lesser known architectural gems. It maintains much of its nostalgia with the old-fashioned elevator operators (Where else will you experience the thrill of bouncing up and down vigorously to get to the right floor level, jostled by a friendly old guy operating a lever?!). The monthly Second Friday's of the month are a great opportunity to tour the many unique studios, meet and mingle with the artists, purchase jewelry and artwork, and listen to performing artists. A must-see if you're in the neighborhood...if only for the manual elevators!

Historic FAB is one of downtown Chicago's most precious gems. Considered to be the nation's oldest artist colony, the building is open to the public. Open studios every 2nd Friday of the month 6-9pm.
It's free admission on Tuesdays! If you like art, I recommend going. They change exhibits each year.
