Because of its archaeological importance, the entirety of the moor is protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. There are more than 70 ancient burial mounds upon the moor, and no less than four Bronze Age stone circles, constructed by the people who lived and worked on Stanton Moor around 4,000 years ago

Stonehenge! Forget that modern stuff! This ancient stone circle, but they are only as high as your knee!! Worth a visit though.

A bit further away but Stanton Moor is a good day out. High-level easy walking around a moor on a plateau. Beautiful in the summer with birds and insects everywhere.

Lovely short circular walk from Stanton Lees or longer walk from Wirksworth.

Across the valley, 5 mins by car is a small enchanting early Bronze Age stone circle traditionally thought to depict 9 ladies turned to stone as a penalty for dancing on Sunday. Amazing base for walks with fantastic views.
