Ngong Hills

These iconic knuckle-shaped peaks are about 45 minutes’ drive southwest of the city centre. Marking the eastern edge of the Rift Valley, they offer spectacular views. The ground drops away and you can see all the way to Tanzania. You’ll see birds of prey using the hills to gain altitude and forests filled with ancient endangered trees. The best time to go is early in the morning, and it’s recommended to take a security guard hiking with you because there are sometimes lone buffalo roaming around, which can be dangerous.

If you love hiking, the Ngong hills which is about a 45 minute drive away, is a perfect place for you. The undulating Ngong Hills are peaks in a ridge along the Great Rift Valley, located in Ngong town, near Nairobi. The word "Ngong" is an Anglicization of a Maasai phrase "enkong'u emuny" meaning rhinoceros spring, and this name derives from a spring located near Ngong Town...These hills offer a real challenge that's moderate for a seasoned hiker. For security, please use a guide when hiking.
