Two movie theaters face each other, on both sides of the canal, with a very good programming. A fluvial shuttle takes you from one side to the other.
2 big movie theaters are on the Canal de l'Ourcq. Even if you don't want to go and see a movie, it's a very nice area to hang out or doing a boat trip. The parc of the Villette is very near, too.

Great place for drinks on the Canal St. Martain. Mostly local, youngish crowd. Very reasonable prices for Paris. Get a table outside on sunny days. Very crowded at happy hour.
Chez Prune is an excellent lunch spot, and still one of the best places to spend an evening on the Canal St-Martin. Local bobo HQ with high ceilings and low lighting
5 minutes from République, along the trendy Canal Saint-Martin, it is THE place to see and be seen for a drink or a meal. The canal is also appreiated by joggers.

Former industrial buildings that houses cinema multiplex and several coffee shops, bars and restaurants along the Ourcq-Canal. Enjoy a free 5min boat-cross to reach the movie theater.
One of the 2 cinemas by the canal,(each has at least 5 screen) the fun thing is you can take a small boat to get from one cinema to the other. English movies are not dubbed (but with french subtitles)
The most enjoyable cinema around, where you can enoy the lively atmosphere around the canal, full of people with picnics, cafes, ... You can cross by boat for free between the 2 cinemas

This is a fine bakery of traditional handcraft, I would say the best in this part of Paris, 10mn walk from rue du Vertbois... Worth it! Try le pain des amis, the pain au chocolat and the apple pie.

The entrance to this park is superb. Built for Louis-Philippe-Joseph d’Orléans, this half-German, half-English garden was designed by Carmontelle. It is planted and adorned with white statues.
The park is unusual in France due to its "English" style: its informal layout, curved walkways and randomly placed statues including some famous French figures Guy de Maupassant, Frédéric Chopin etc.

The Hipsters' bar ! Actors, singers, wannabes and cool arty people are all going there for a beer and have long and loud chats !
Another place located in a street I particularly like the atmosphère "Faubourg Saint Denis". The clientèle is type, around 30s years old. This place kept its French authenticity. A must to see!
This freshly restored 1940s-era diner on the Faubourg Saint-Denis is the real deal, combining the best of the authentic Parisian character with a decidedly Bourgeois Bohemian (BoBo) crowd.
