Parks & Nature

At the end of Elysian Fields Avenue near the river you can enter Crescent park for a relaxing walk or bike ride. Look for the footbridge over the train tracks. There's an elevator if you want to take your bikes. You'll find some of the best views of the city here, seats are scattered through the park where you can stop for a break. The park follows the river to Chartres Street in the Bywater neighborhood where there is a free parking lot if you wanted to drive. In the Bywater you can stop for lunch at The Joint for barbecue, Elizabeth's for breakfast or lunch or Bacchanal fine wine & spirits for great al fresco music and dining.

Great music and inexpensive drinks make this Frenchman St. spot a favorite of locals and travelers alike. On any given night catch two sets of blues, jazz, latin, or any of their various permutations. The space is small and the energy is contagious—it can get packed, but it's all part of the experience.

Arts & Culture

Designed by renowned architect Emile Weil and built in 1927, the Saenger Theatre’s interior re-creates the ambience of a 15th century Italian courtyard and gardens, complete with a starlit evening sky ceiling, arched surroundings, statuary, columns and decorative moldings. Located on the corner of Canal and North Rampart streets in downtown New Orleans, the Saenger is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Once the flagship of Julian and Abe Saenger's empire of dozens of theatres nationwide, today it is one of only a handful of Saenger theatres that remain in operation.

Sightseeing

Take a stroll down Royal Street  Royal Street is one of the most well known streets in New Orleans and is a must-stroll in the French Quarter.  Walk past balconies ablaze with colorful hanging baskets and breathe in the history. Each day a large section of Royal is closed to vehicles from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, that means plenty of space for strolling and a great opportunity to stop and take in the myriad of street entertainers. Musicians, magicians and vaudeville type performers line the route for your entertainment. Royal Street is also a lovely shopping destination with intimate stores selling everything from antiques to high fashion

Frenchmen Street If it's music that you crave or just a peek into the New Orleans way-of-nightlife, then Frenchmen Street is a must see. Known as the "locals' version of Bourbon," Frenchmen is an entertainment district located in walking distance from our house and offers an amazing variety of venue styles and music ranging from traditional jazz to blues to reggae to rock. Many clubs along the strip don't even charge a cover! But in true New Orleans fashion, do give a cheer after a great trombone solo and throw a few bucks in the tip jar to show your appreciation.
