You can't visit London and not go to Harrods! It's an iconic department store that is worth a visit, even if you are not planning to buy anything. They have absolutely everything there and the building (outside and inside) if gorgeous!

This market will definitely make your mouth water! You can get the best of everything there: delicious artisan bread, beautiful and quirky fruit & veg, charcuterie, cheese, fish, meat... You name it, you will be able to find it here. Come around brunch/lunchtime and there will be all kind of stalls with nice food to choose from. Our personal favourite is scallops served with lemon and bacon crumble! Don't mistake this market for a tourist trap, it's just busy because it is THAT good!

Food Scene

Matt and Rachel run a great coffee place! Not one you'll be likely to stumble upon yourself without any directions, but definitely worth checking out. Craving Coffee know their stuff when it comes to coffee and tea, very important. Ask them about their one & one! They also do some great muffins and other stuff for your sweet tooth. It's our favourite local place for a weekend brunch, because they have some excellent juices/Smoothies/breakfast cocktails(!), tasty sandwiches (a killer Breakfast Banh Mi) and a veg frittata of the day. On a Friday night, they usually partner up with a different kitchen/food truck, so you'll be able to taste dishes from all over the world from local cooks... A great way to discover something new and let yourself be surprised! Check out their Facebook page/website for details. Sometimes they even team up for a tastings when it comes to drinks: beers from Beavertown Brewery, wines or a sake tasting... A fun evening guaranteed!

At Harvest you can get a great cup of coffee (to go or have a seat) and they have a nice selection of baked goods to go with it: wheat/gluten/dairy free, brownies, muffins and all kinds of loafs. They also have nice ans tasty bread (you'll definitely have a hard time finding that in Tesco's or Sainsbury's). They are basically a small supermarket as well, with great fresh produce and all sorts of (organic) groceries.

On Saturdays (from April until End of October if I'm not mistaken) food trucks and stalls take over this car park in Shoreditch. The selection on offer changes every week, but there is always a good international variety when it comes to food and drinks. Vegetarians will find different options you can also find something vegan and gluten free. Seating area (pic nic tables/benches) is available, so grab a seat and let everyone get their favourite dish from the different stalls. Cocktails, wine, prosecco... You can find it here as well. Last time I went alcohol free was BYO, so you couldn't find a lot of that there.

This is Lee's all time favourite!! A very popular restaurant near Camden Market, so be sure to make a reservation (online or give them a call) if you want to go on the weekend between 6-9pm. They do great Latin/Caribbean food. If you don't want to look at the menu, just order what Lee always orders: the wood coal grilled spicy half jerk baby chicken with a side of plantain and rice & peas. A guaranteed winner!

This indoor market has a couple of simple but nice Colombian restaurants. Order some empanadas or a big bowl of san cocho (soup with lots of veg and beef/chicken) and milkshake or a bottle of Colombiana (apple flavoured soft drink). A £10 note will go a long way here! While you are there, take a look at the grocery shop with a lot of yummy latin american snacks!

Our go-to-place for breakfast on a Sunday morning! This is the closest cafe, but there are a couple in London that are all outstanding. They don't take reservations for breakfast, so if you don't want to queue for a table make sure you get there before 9.30am. We love their hot, savoury dishes (hash, eggs benedict any style, basically anything with chorizo), but they also do great pancake stacks and yoghurt & fresh fruit.

It's simple: they do steak and chicken! Well, they have some other options, but that are their signature dishes. The chicken has been in the oven the whole day and comes upside down with stuffing, gravy and chips/fries. One is plenty for two people! A nice restaurant in popular area Shoreditch, so book if you don't want to wait for too long. Don't be put off by the Damian Hirst art in the middel of the restaurant, it's an interseting touch! Go for a drink in the bar of Hoxton Hotel afterwards, always a DJ for some good music and cocktails are great!

Getting Around

To get to our place from Heathrow Airport, it's best to take the Underground: Piccadilly Line all the way to Finsbury park. There it's easy to change to the Victoria Line, you will just have to cross to the other platform and not go up and down any stairs. Might be better if you have luggage

This is one of the few parks in London where you can have a BBQ, there is a designated area for that. If you get off at London Fields or Hackney Central Overground Station, there are a couple of shops nearby where you can buy what you'll need. Also under the arches along the railway at London Fields, there are some nice coffee shops and cafés for a drink and snack. Enjoy Broadway Market on Saturday at the south side of the park and pick up some yummy things to nibble on while hanging out in the park or go and see the cricket on the north side on Sunday. And don't forget the Lido outdoor swimming pool when it really gets hot!

Arts & Culture

Always a great time at Natural History Museum! The building in itself is beautiful, the big hall with the steps and the dinosaur.... Amazing! Free entry, be early if you want to avoid the crowds. If you come from South Kensington Station, there is usually a Museum security guard on the corner after the traffic lights. There are two entrances, ask the guard what the quickest is to avoid a wait that is too long. Besides their standard collection (cool dinosaur exhibition!), there is usually a temporary exhibition on display: can be anything from real life butterflies to space photography! Extra fee, but well worth it if it's something that spikes your interest.
