Tex-Mex within a minute drive of my house. They are known for their Mexican Martinis. I like to sit on the back patio when the weather is nice.

It is a bit of a drive to get there, but once you are there you can stay for hours. Be sure to arrive with plenty of time to get seated before sunset because that is what this place is known for. It's located up on a hill overlooking the lake and you can watch the sun set while sipping a margarita and eating Tex-Mex. After dinner, you can stay for the live music and dancing or visit the gift shop or take in the sculptures and art. This place is HUGE!

Probably my favorite Italian restaurant in town. It's more of a romantic spot than a family place.

This is the flagship Whole Foods, which is a giant wonderland of culinary delights. For smaller grocery trips, there is a small grocery store a few blocks away, and a smaller Whole Foods a couple miles away.

There are lots of little houses-turned-bars up and down this small street. This is the hot spot for locals and tourists alike. But for a more authentic Austin experience, I'd go to East 6th street.

Shopping

If you like more upscale shopping and dining, this may be the place for you. It's like a whole city unto itself, so be prepared to do some walking, or get a little confused driving around. You can spend an entire day here, from brunch to late night shuffle board. You could even rent an apartment...no kidding.

The section of South Congress known as SoCo has lots of unique little shops and restaurants, complete with street musicians if you visit on Saturday or Sunday. Take a picture in front of the iconic "i love you so much" wall and be sure to visit my two favorite stores: The Big Top Candy Shop and Uncommon Objects.
