Around the corner from our house on nearby Broad St., this place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's been family owned and operated for decades and it's a true American Steak House...Steaks, side veggie, potatoes and salad plus three desserts. Not cheap, but friends swear it's the best steak you'll ever taste. The coolest part is that they have booths with curtains so that you can dine in nearly total privacy (to do your back room deals!)

Charming little place with all outside (under tent) dining. It's not cheap but the food is pretty solid, the cocktails delicious and the place has a certain charm. There's literally a tree growing in the dining area. We've heard it can be buggy in summer (makes sense) but we've dined there in the winter months and enjoyed it very much. It's also a delightful 10 minute walk up gorgeous Esplanade to get there through some of the most charming neighborhood in the city. That alone recommends it.

Amazing small plates, incredible selection of wine and cheese. Usually has live music and (sadly) a line. In the far reaches of the Bywater neighborhood but totally worth the distance and the wait. We feel guilty even putting this on our list...it's a New Orleans insider secret and we'd like it to stay that way. It's not at all like a real country club, nary a golf shirt in sight! Instead it used to be a clothing optional bar and swimming patio with a small restaurant as well. It costs $10 on weekdays, $15 on weekends and $8 after 5 p.m 7 days a week. The pool is saline instead of chlorine which makes a world of difference and the place is usually jam packed with lovely young people of all ilks. Tattoos, gender neutral, screaming queens, androgenous beauties...every alt beautiful person in town frequents the Country Club. It's also located in a c.1884 Italianate raised center hall cottage on adorable Louisa street in the Bywater. One of our ultimate favorite places!
