This is where alternative lives experiments were happening on the west side of the wall. Today Kreuzberg is an interesting mix of old a new Berlin. Most of the life happens in GorlizerPark and around Paul-Lincke Ufer: one of the most beautiful canals in Berlin with plenty of restaurants and cafe on its banks.

This is where youngsters usually end up when they move to Berlin for the first time. The young internationals and the existing Turkish community mix in a way that is not always harmonious but that allow learning and exploring. My favourite places are the so-called "Kreuzkölln" area on the south side of the Maybachufer for cafe and restaurants, Weserstraße for late-night bars and around Herrfurthplatz and Templehof to visit during the day and check out how the life is growing around the old nazi airport.

Old bakery with interiors and recipes dating back to the DDR time. Just 5 minutes walking from my flat. Super convenient too!

Even if with the years it might have lost its authenticity, Mauerpark on Sundays remains a must to go to any visitor. Here the biggest fleamarket in Berlin takes place every weekend. Loads of street food, people picnicking and street artist.

My favourite Chinese restaurant in town. If you love Chinese and spicy food, this is the place for you. 5min for my flat by foot. Have the fried Aubergines and the beef or fish roasted in chilli oil and garlic. You will not regret!

YES! In this tiny place on a busy street, you will have the best falafel of your life. Check it out if you have been out late for drinks on Weßserstraße or if you are on your way having a day under the sun in Hasenheide Park.

Contemporary food meet minimalist design. If you are not up to paying the 150 euros evening course menu, try to go for breakfast and have the square french toast.

Leave your manners at home and come with a lot of patience. Authentic granma thai food is served for a reasonable price at the cost of fighting for getting your order taken and grabbing a "table". A takeaway option is also available.

Sightseeing

I know... You have to be lucky to catch a sunny day and swimming in a lake is not like doing the same thing in the ocean. Nevertheless, here you can enjoy the day laying on a sandy beach and it is only 15min away with the tram from my place. Not bad!

This is the biggest flea market in Berlin and it is close to what is left of the Berlin Wall. Even if commerce is taking over part of its soul, Mauerpark still represents what for many locals Berlin means: frugal living and laid back attitude. On weekend days, you will be able to eat street food, picnicking and assist to a number of street artists.
