Everything Else

There is so much to see and do in Cape Town and surrounds. Our best for guests are Franschoek for wine tours. Some of the best wine estates are in Franschoek - make a day of it and if you need to be driven book a tour with African Destinations Travel. Ask Kenny or Mary. Well worth doing. The Constantia Wine Route is also fabulous and closer in to the city. Another fun day is a trip to see the Penguins at Boulders Beach in Simonstown. A trip along Chapmans Peak Drive is a must. Glorious views and stunning sun sets. Camps Bay is stunning for sundowners and sunsets. Cape Point the most south westerly part of Africa is a little further out but fun to do. So chat to Mary if you need any more information. Babylonstoren is a must do place - spectacular gardens set amongst mountains. All fresh produce is used in their restaurants. Fresh produce include olives, nuts, cheese, meats, eggs, and all the most amazing vegetables. Shop in style for the most beautiful colourful linen. And home grown glorious wine. Do a wine tasting and include one of their mouth watering platters. Go to their scented room which is difficult to leave. Set some time aside and book at their spa for a relaxing massage and swim.
The Houses of Parliament can be viewed from the balcony of the apartment. Wonderful to walk along the Company Gardens and see Parliament and the Gardens and feed the squirrels.

Everything about Babylonstoren is just heavenly. Love the layout of the gardens. The attention to detail with such style. The shop for buying exquisite colourful lien. Fresh, eggs, meat, nuts and olive oil. And not to mention the glorious wine tasting and platters. One of my favourite places in Cape Town.

Sightseeing in and around the city.

Cape Town has some stunning areas to see. What's fun is that you can walk from The Piazza on Church Square, through the Company Gardens, up Wale Street to the Bo-Kaap with its wonderful colourful houses, across Strand road leaving the Bo-Kaap into De Waterkant Village where we also have a two bedroom cottage. Walk along Bay View Terrace and see the stunning view of the Harbour. Our guests love the neighbourly feel to the village with its friendly people. Plenty of wonderful restaurants and coffee shops. Along the route take in the art galleries, Greenmarket Square, and walk towards the The V&A Waterfront, The Silo District with its Mocca Zeist Art Gallery and Boat trips in the Harbour. Try the water taxi and do a Harbour Trip and the Sea Point promenade with its glorious Atlantic Ocean. Bicycles can be hired on the promenade and take a fun ride all the way to the V&A Waterfront.
In Cape Town we think It's the greatest mountain in the world. My advice is to go up the mountain on the first clear day that you have. Sometimes guests arrive and go straight up the mountain in the afternoon. The weather in Cape Town can be quite tricky with 4 different seasons in a day and guests can miss out on going to the top of the mountain because of the weather. So always first on the list. Take a taxi from the apartment to the cable car where you can either walk up if you are very fit or take the cable car up and down. A little tip - book on-line so that you only have one queue to stand in. Once you have booked the queue to go up is clearly marked. There is a coffee shop/restaurant at the top so fun to have a coffee or a light lunch. Take something warm it can get cold.

This is such a fabulous drive - if you don't have a car you can do a trip on the Red Hop On Hop Off Bus. Otherwise we have some great tour guides you can do the trip with. The scenery from this drive is beautiful.

Clicks in Burg Street is a good place to buy pharmaceutical products. Woolworths Food Store is on Adderley street which is an easy stroll. Here you can buy all the essential groceries you need for the stay at the apartment.

Entertainment & Activities

Entertainment in Cape Town is so varied. On bad weather days its fun to go to the V&A Waterfront where you can take in a movie, go to dinner, take a Water Taxi around the harbour, watch some entertainment in the arena, go on the Big Wheel, go to the Aquarium or do some shopping. On good weather days definitely visit our beaches. Clifton 1,2,3,4 are more sheltered and are so beautiful. There are some steps down and of course once you are down some steps to get back up. But so worth it. The water is cold but on very hot days the water is refreshingly icy. Don't forget the sun block out and a hat. The best is to Uber to the beach so you don't have to worry about parking. Camps Bay beach is also stunning. Hire your chairs and umbrellas and settle in for the day. You can order your Piazza or lunch from the restaurants across the road and have a fun picnic on the beach. There are many activities for the more adventurous like Paragliding, Zip Lining which is aerial tree top hopping - great fun but can be scary, I have done it and it was exhilarating, Mountain Climbing. With any of the above speak to us or the experts before attempting and we are not liable for any of our guests doing any of the above. Although all guests have always been safe. Arts & Culture is a big thing in Cape Town. Always Google to see whats on. On the First Thursday of every month we have what is called First Thursday from 17:00 to late where all the art galleries and shops are open until 21:00 or later and it is fun to go out and join - very festive atmosphere.
The V&A has a stunning Aquarium as well as the best selection of shops, restaurants and movie houses. Loads of entertainment or enjoying a glass of wine and watching the ships in the harbour.

Arts & Culture

Cape Town has some of the finest African Art. From new artists to well know William Kentridge, Irma Stern, Maggie Laubser. There are so many up and coming new artists to be seen at some of the art galleries in the city. I recently did a Street Art Tour in Langa to see was happening in Langa and loved the tour and the art and artists. Let me know if you would like to do the same and we can organise this for you. Dylan Lewis has some extraordinary work in his gardens in Somerset West which is definitely worth visiting if you love art sculptures and gardens.
Greenmarket Square is such a buzz of activity where you could browse or buy those wonderful African Curios. The stall seller are friendly and helpful.

Food scene

We are so happy to have this creative foodie restaurant right on our doorstep at The Piazza on Church Square. Nothing is too much for the Judy who owns this restaurant and the vibe is amazing. Food specially prepared in front of you which is always stunning. Well worth a try. When booking in make a booking and let them know you are a guest of Cape Town City Luxury Apartments (Mary Bailey). We love it that they give everyone excellent service but our guests are extra special.

If you love everything healthy than this is the spot for you. Palm leaves surround this little gem of a restaurant. I cannot ever go without having one of their delicious bowls. Just watching them prepare all the dishes is mouth watering. Place your order at the counter and they bring your food to you. The queue may seem a little long sometimes to place your order but well worth the wait. I leant a little trick if you are going to lunch. Breakfast stops at around 11:30 so all the breakfast people seem to leave at 12:00 leaving space for the lunch guys. Its all in the timing with this small wonderful restaurant. Great Staff.

No photo yet - I haven't visited this restaurant but have heard a lot about it. So more to come. All I know is that the Beyond Meat (Vegan) Burgers sell out quicker than the meat burgers. Interesting. Still have to try one of these. They also seem a little more pricey than the meat version - so willing to try.
