We're not big clubbers, but this nightclub is a sister venue to one of our favourite bars, the Drake One Fifty. The upstairs patio has a very tasteful art deco style and they have all the same great drinks as Drake One Fifty

Food Scene

Carbon bar is a restaurant first, but the drinks are the main reason for this recommendation. The food is decent, standard southern style food (Ribs, fried chicken, brisket, collared greens etc.) but the drinks are extraordinary. The Pit Fired Old Fashioned is very bold, but very rewarding if you enjoy the smokey taste - try the Smokin' Manhattan if you want something a bit closer to the traditional drink. The Black Mamba (charcoal infused margarita) is also a favourite.

Great Asian fusion. You might even get to see our own Celebrity Chef, Susur Lee. One of my favourite restaurants in the city. Try the Singapore Slaw and the Burnt Orange Manhattan

Sister restaurant to Lee, but a more casual setting. Features the best dishes and drinks as Lee but also some of their own. Interesting fact: "Bent" is the last name of Susur Lee's wife

Another Asian fusion restaurant but more Thai focussed. Try the Tom Yum Booze if a savoury, creative spin on Tom Yum soup sounds interesting to you. The Whole Fried Giggie Trout is my favourite. If you have an appetite, the tasting menu is great value and can serve groups as small as two.

Extremely busy Northern Thai restaurant, run by Chef Nuit, a local legend for Thai cooking. This place has more than just your average green curry or pad thai - my personal favourite is the Pad Gra Prow. I always get the pork version, but you can get beef or chicken versions as well. Great value - entrees are around $13CND

All around decent choice for good quality bar food. Located quite close to our house. The drinks are also well made.

Delicious Asian style "Bao" sandwhiches. The pork belly bao is a personal favourite, but you can't really go wrong here.

East Chinatown has a lot of nearby, decent food options. Order takeout (soya sauce chicken, or barbecued pork) from "Wok & Roast Chinese BBQ", or get Pho at Bach Yen. Both are cheap, tasty option. There are many other tasty options in this neighbourhood that we haven't yet tried.

I’m hesitant to recommend anything American to someone who is actually American, since there’s a good chance you’ve already had better Detroit style pizza, but I did really enjoy my meal here, and I think the restaurant has a really cool vibe.

I’m also hesitant to recommend a tacqueria to anyone American because it’s said that Mexican food gets worse the further you are from the border. However, I’ve also been pretty satisfied with my meals here, the tacos are well crafted (my favourites are the carnita and the baja fish) and the atmosphere is pretty cool. Their sister restaurant next door, Sweet Jesus, is a popular ice cream joint.

This place is a true hole in the wall - it serves Pho, a signature Vietnamese beef noodle soup. There are other Pho places on this street but we've agreed that this one is the best, because of the flavour of the broth, and the price. There is very basic table seating, and the atmosphere is definitely lacking, but at $6-$7CND per dish, it's unbelievable that they can still make money

A draw for both locals and tourists, this redeveloped industrial age is just really cool to walk through, and has some interesting stores and trendy (but pricey) restaurants.
