Parks & Nature

If you’re a nature lover, or even if you’re not, this place is truly magical. Hiking on a trail above the water, you get to see the Golden Gate Bridge, where the Pacific Ocean flows into the Bay. The views are both breathtaking and romantic. With the wind blowing in your hair, holding hands throughout the hike, it’s very San Francisco. Set off on your hike early afternoon, and follow it up with a meal at the nearby Cliff House restaurant while the sun sets over the Pacific. The colors are amazing.

If you and your date appreciate nature, tea, connection, and beauty, sharing a pot of tea together among the traditional Japanese architecture and manicured gardens here is a very intimate, spiritual experience. Don’t rush out when you’re done: take some deep breaths and walk the paths through the the garden. Afterwards, take a short stroll through Golden Gate Park to Stow Lake, where you can rent a paddleboat and circle the middle of the lake.

Food Scene

Brunch at The Grove gives you a feel for downtown, since the entire building is made of glass and you’re sitting right at street level. It’s casual—you can usually be in and out in an hour, and if the date is going well, you’re in an area where there are plenty of ways to continue the day together. SFMOMA and Yerba Buena Gardens are right there. I like The Grove’s tables where you can sit next to your date instead of across from them. It makes it easier to really enjoy and talk about everything that's happening on the street.

I love this authentic Italian spot on Union Street that’s super romantic and sexy with a traditional vibe. Amazing food, fantastic wine, and an extraordinary date experience. It's very cozy, and the servers’ accents and mannerisms make you feel like you've traveled to Italy. I know people who have come here on first dates and people who’ve come for a first anniversary. I've even known people to come here for a wedding proposal. No matter the occasion, though, you’re going to want a reservation.

From the outside, there's nothing extraordinary about this Mission district restaurant, but the moment you walk inside, it’s like, "Where am I?" It just screams romance. It's sensual, hip, and it feels like you're in your own little zone. The food is decadent, and every little detail feels like an aphrodisiac. If you can, get a table on the patio. The lights strung overhead and the classic movie playing silently on one wall create a vibe that’s so romantic.

It's the coolest Indian restaurant, authentic, and not a hole in the wall. I live outside of the city in Emeryville, and I'll drive across the Bay Bridge just to go pick up this food. If you and your date love a place with great energy and amazing comfort Indian food at an affordable price, this is your spot. It can get pretty crowded and loud in here around dinner time, but you don't need reservations.

A relaxing and exquisite spot, the restaurant is known for the stained glass sunroof that caps the dining room. Get dressed up and head here to feel like royalty at a pretty affordable price point. It has a phenomenal vibe, and is as romantic as can be. Plus, the acoustics are so great, you’ll feel like you're in your own private zone. I recommend going during lunch, or popping in for tea and a snack. Follow it up with a stroll around the heart of Union Square to check out all the cool window displays.

There’s always a wait to get into Tony’s, but it’s a good excuse to take a walk around North Beach, San Francisco’s historically Italian-American neighborhood. There are so many cool stores, cafes, and restaurants right around here to check out and talk about. Once you get inside, Tony’s is cozy and full of wonderful smells. Pizza is king here, and comes in a lot of specific regional styles, like Romana, Sicilian, New York—even unexpected twists like “Grandma,” Detroit, and St. Louis. It’s always fun to share something new.

This restaurant is sexy, contemporary, and has a classy vibe. I’d say it’s a perfect place to treat yourself to an elegant date where you can have a nice meal with beautiful cocktails. Even though it's a fine dining restaurant, you have the option to come casual or dress up a bit. It's up to you. This is a great place to go all out on a multicourse meal. But if you want to go simpler, sit in the bar area, where you can order a burger that is absolutely to die for. It melts in your mouth.

Drinks & Nightlife

There’s a cool, funky vibe in this beautiful wood-lined tavern, where even the servers fit in with the overall mood. There’s a little enclosed all-glass atrium when you first walk in. With the sun shining in, awesome succulents, plants on the wall, and beautiful woodwork, I think this is the best spot to hang out and spark some romance. My favorite cocktail is definitely the Strawberry Hill—it’s strawberry, lemon juice, red wine, black pepper, cinnamon, and gin.

This beautiful venue devoted to live jazz is a romantic date spot. San Francisco is known for jazz and architecture, so to get both in one date is pretty cool. Located in Hayes Valley, there are endless options for a great meal before or after the show. You can't not have a good time, unless you’re just with the wrong person. All the biggest jazz acts show up here. For the big names, you’ll probably need tickets ahead of time, so check out the schedule.
