Shopping

Alchemy is a well-curated shop with some amazing unusual items. I’ve never taken a bad picture here. I always make this the first stop when I have people visiting from out of town. The crew here is super helpful—say hi to Krista! They always have an interesting vehicle as a centerpiece in the store. When they first opened, it was a Mercedes from the ’70s. Then it was a mini-sailboat. Once it was a vintage Jeep.

A small well-curated design and interiors shop run by two of the the nicest people. Coming here is like going to a museum. The owners are so friendly; even if you just pop in to look or take a photo, they're just happy to talk to you. The owners’ white dog is usually sitting by the counter looking adorable.

Food Scene

Once just a food truck, Eggslut is now a full-on restaurant in the Grand Central Market. People are crazy for their egg sandwiches. The line gets longer and longer every day. The key is to go on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday morning or around lunch time. The Fairfax: scrambled eggs and chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo on a brioche bun. It’s probably the prettiest and also the most delicious thing on the menu.

I live in a loft downtown, two or three blocks from this Mediterranean-Spanish place. They have these pitas that are kind of like a sandwich—it's called the “Bäco”—which they serve at lunch, dinner, and brunch. The Bäco is pretty much food porn for the camera. And the big mirror to the side of the bar that says Bäco Mercat makes for a good selfie.

People like to work (and post) from this well-designed spot that serves amazing coffee, so it’s always busy. The living wall in the courtyard is one of the most Instagrammed spots downtown.

There’s a jazzy vibe here and great cocktails. Somehow, it doesn’t really feel like LA. There’s live music starting around 8pm until late, and they get great singers. Head to the rooftop just before sunset. The view and light up there are amazing during the golden hour.

Drinks & Nightlife

For a nicer experience, this is my spot; it’s gorgeous and the food is amazing. There's a beautiful bar with moody lighting and all sorts of marble and gold, and the main dining room has this bright orange, '70s accent leather. The light before the sun goes down is wonderful in here. Right when they open for dinner at 5pm, grab a seat at the bar, where the light is always gorgeous.

If you want to be surrounded by people in a lively setting, the roof bar at the Ace is always packed. On one side there’s a hot tub, on the other a DJ. And it's got a great 360-degree view of downtown. Shoot an aerial of downtown. You really can't take a bad shot up here.
