Food Scene

My favorite Pizza place in Austin. Straight up New York style pizza and done right. There's a bit of a wait on weekend evenings, but you can get a drink and hang out in the back patio area. The service is surprisingly efficient for as chaotic as it looks at first glance.

This is a quaint little spot that is the best mix of good quality sushi, without being too pricy, that I've found here in Austin.

What can I say? It's Austin's local answer to Denys or IHOP and they hit it out of the park. Good iconic spot for brunch if that's what you're feeling. Be forewarned though, if it's brunch time there will be a crowd.

An offshoot of the original Blacks BBQ in Lockhart, TX, but with the advantage of only being like 10 minutes away. A lot of people will tell you that you "have to go to Franklins" while you're in Austin. Don't get me wrong, Franklins is good, so go there if you must... but that line sure is long. In my opinion Blacks is some quality Texas BBQ with out the hype and the half day wait time.

Breakfast tacos are coming a national craze! It's kinda funny to watch having been around them for so long... but yeah. They're popular for a reason, their freakin delicious! Torchy's is closely and an Austin original. They have some of their own taco concoctions too that are pretty bold. Get the "Trailer Park"... and get it "trashy"... and then love/hate yourself for it. (If you wan to sit down and eat, the Torchy's on 1st is better for that.)

Hands Down best Indian restaurant in Austin. People will say "Clay Pit"... I'll admit, Clay Pit is good, and it's a little more attractive on the inside (better for a romantic date), but that's about it. If you just want to grub down on some delicious decently priced Indian Cuisine, Asiana is your spot.

5 star sushi. More expensive than DK, but some of their signature roles are pretty amazing. If you want to splurge and you really like Sushi, it's worth it. The atmosphere is a step above too.

Look, I'm not going to lie. This is a bar that serves donuts. But here me out, the donuts are AMAZING! So it's okay. They are like... hand crafted plates full of pure decadence. My favorite is the "Black Betty". But they also have savory food too, burgers and such, sandwiches... on donuts, no big deal. Sounds weird huh... oh well, that's what we're supposed to be keeping it right? The burger donuts are savory and actually really tasty. They aren't sweet. But look, if you like donuts and have a sweet tooth, try it. You'll thank me. You might not admit it out loud, but we'll both know that deep down you'll be thanking me.

This is a totally decent bar. Good service, nothing fancy, good crowd, nice open area out back with a food trailer from East Side King which is totally delicious (try the beet fries if you like beets... or even if you just don't hate beets. They're really good)

This is a very unassuming place, look for the sign with 7up on it over on east 6th. Most non locals wouldn't even think to walk into it, but if you like Bloody Mary's, this place has the best one in town in my book. Ask for it with the jalapeño infused vodka if you want an extra kick.

Entertainment & Activities

If you want to rent a paddle board, kayak, or canoe, here is your spot. Parking can be tough on weekends, so it's bet to get there early (they open at sunrise). They rent by the hour and by the day. One of my favorite morning activities is to take the paddle board out, paddle up Barton Creek from town lake until the water is nice a clear, then jump in! (I wouldn't swim in Town Lake though, the water isn't nearly as appealing)

Parks & Nature

Surprisingly close by, only about a 15 minute drive south and east. You can hike some trails, checkout the impressive naturally carved limestone formations of the falls themselves, and swim in swimming hole beneath the falls if there is enough water.

Again, with this much beauty comes a crowd, so get there as early as possible.

You can access the hike and bike trail from just about any point along town lake between MopPac and I35, or even east of I35 if you wanted. It's a big loop, and a nice way to spend the day walking, jogging, or biking if you rent a bike. Most of the trail is smooth crushed granite, some of it is paved or wooden bridge.

If you want top notch meats and organic produce, this is where I go for that kind of stuff. It's like whole foods, but for some reason I like it better. It's closer too. If all you need is just regular old groceries though, you'll pay a much better price by going to HEB and you'll get a lot of the same quality stuff. (Central Market is owned by HEB, so a lot of the organic stuff can be found at the HEBs)
