Excellent, authentic Mexican. The Gaucamole is a must! And it's super close by.

New to the hood - part of the current pizza craze in Mile End - this small joint was opened by a couple from Rome. Great Roma-style pizza by the slice, pasta by the day. Affordable and yummy.

A minute's walk down Fairmont past Ave du Parc, this is a classic Montreal bistro that again, feels like it was lifted out of Paris. The menu hasn't changed in eons, but one goes for the ambiance and the super, flower-adorned terrace. Brunch is crazy busy there.

Great terrace, delicious Middle-Eastern themed resto with kebabs, couscous and the like. Tasty and a bit on the expensive side, but worth it.

Brunch! One of the top brunch places in MTL, they got it all. Poutine for brunch? They got it, with their own twist. Expect to wait in line on weekends, it's crowded.

Just a stone's throw, a staple of yummy food, good coffee and a nice terrace. However, they took away the free wifi - be forewarned.

Drinks & Nightlife

A small, sweaty hot mess, if you're young or young at heart (and can bear copious fog machine action), the music is kicking. Next to Datcha is their sister lounge, which is more easy going and has an outdoor terrace. A few minutes walk.

Also a resto, of sorts - the charcuterie plates are rustic and tasty, the roasted chicken the most popular item on the menu. This is more of a 30+ crowd, and a lot of Franco Quebec film-types (actors, directors) hang out here. Great terrace, lots of beautiful people.

Hipster paradise! Super expensive drinks made by young gents sporting tuxedos - the martini menu is impressive. Spacious inside, with massive palms, it has a Moroccan cafe / colonial club vibe. Great little stoop outside to sit and people watch.

I haven't been here personally, but went to its previous iteration "The Royal Phoenix" which was a very fun, mixed (gay and straight) crowd with awesome poutine. I hear the new joint has one ping pong table, and is much the same vibe as the Phoenix was.

Parks & Nature

A recently renovated urban parc, this little corner of bucolic paradise feels like it was transported from Europe. A large, long fountain sits in front of a church built in the Italian gothic style (I swear I've seen a very similar church in Firenze). Kitty corner to the parc on Laurier is the old city hall (which looks like a mini-Chateau) for the district (before it was Mile End and part of Montreal), which is now a fire station. Great place to hang out with a coffee or a pastry from Serafin (just across the street), a Portuguese bakery with super cheap eats.

Entertainment & Activities

Search for this on Face Book - it's a weekend, summer only thing that has food trucks, a beer garden and live entertainment in a forgotten parc on the corner of St. Dominique and Bernard. Wynn Butler from Arcade Fire spins there a few times a season (but shhhhh...he's not very good) and the crowds seem to eat it up. Shuts down at 11 pm.
