Having parents that grew up in Japan, amplified my taste for Japanese food. Ematei is one of the best in the city, affordable lunch options and great variety in food! Their fried pork over rice called "katsu don" is so well flavoured and is filling! And their sushi is perfect blend of spicy wasabi with sweetness in the rice, I am shamefully not a huge fan of wasabi but they do it in a way where the wasabi is not overpowering!

Miku is a bit higher end and has embraced modern twists to their sushi - it's delicious! Everytime I took a bite of sushi, I didn't know what to expect but they managed to add new flavours and elements to the sometimes boring tradition of fish on vinegared rice. A family friend, who is also a famous Japanese painter flew all the way from Japan to paint the interiors of the restaurant. It's gorgeous, classy, jazzy, and modern. They have nice deserts too that are light and fresh! They have bars you can sit and eat in, or seats with a table, they also have a room for groups that you can reserve.

Keeffaa's is run by a beautiful soul named Elsabet. She puts her bright and beautiful spirit into her food that she makes fresh to order and allows her intuition to guide her to add punches of flavour to every dish. She can make vegan dishes and meat dishes, she makes her own fresh teas and juices. She even has her own paintings up on the walls. Her hours are sometimes unexpected as she is the only one working there so I suggest calling first. :) Keeffaa's can also be a great reading cafe, with fresh brewed coffee or tea.

This place has a great atmosphere, wonderful wood-fired pizzas and great wines to match. You can ask for which wines would go best with the pizza you choose. Would be great for a date or with friends or family. They have multiple locations and make sure to call if it's a bit late at night, their closing hours are not written online.

These guys deliver flavour everytime. Multiple locations. Fantastic fresh authentic thai food! It all started from a man who fell in love with a nurse in Thailand who got the opportunity to show her cooking skills and they brought that to Canada! Their fried fish dish is especially tantalizing! It can be a tiny bit chaotic and sitting close to others but some tables are tucked away so try to be one of the lucky ones!

Dim sum! Their dim sum is so very filling, and so very delicious. If you've never tried dim sum before, note that it is a bit greasy amd heavy but the flavours are awesome! It's a great way to share multiple small dishes with a group of 3 and up. They also have other Cantonese dishes, but I always go for the dim sum.

May is a really strange place, they have live jazz bands sometimes, even game nights with mini-pinpong! I'm a bit of a french-fry obsessed person and this place has my favourite french fries in the city! Extra battered and crispy on the outside - you get a whole plate full of fries for $7 .They feature standard Vietnamese tapas as well like satay squid and crispy five-spiced quail and they also have a few arcade games. They also have a small bar to get a drink before you decide to get up on stage and sing your heart out :) Check their website to see which nights they have certain events!

YUM. Everything here is absolutely delicious and tastes so fresh, the most authentic Thai food you'll get in the city. It's the same owners as Sukho Thai as well. Their khao soi with braised beef is deeeelish (meat falls off the bone) and their Thai style chicken wings are seasoned in a way that no one can match (meat falls off the bone in this dish too) and their spring rolls are the bomb, Thai fried rice is also very good.

Drinks & Nightlife

416 snack bar is a great place to grab a drink and some fantastic appetizers. My favourite is their spicy tuna handroll... I know, so much Japanese food I'm recommending but it's sooo good! So far everything I've eaten there is very good. Beware, the atmosphere is dimly lit, and you'll likely sit very close to other guests but with the music, good drinks, good snacks and good company, you slowly forget about the hustle and bustle happening around you. So this is not exactly a calming, family gathering type place. Going here with 2 or 3 people is good, 4 and up will be a stretch to find seating because it's small!

This is a hip, grungy type of place with smashed nachos in a chip bag as snacks, bbq'ed wings in the back patio (late afternoon) and turns into a dance floor inside at night. Even on a Sunday night it's pretty live until about 11:30pm. It's found in a very inconspicuous alleyway, so might be difficult to find.

This place feels like going upstairs into a cool apartment that has graffiti all over the stairwell, nice furniture and super relaxed bouncers. Usually Sunday nights are surprisingly busy here, and it only gets busy after midnight. Before then, it's a sweet loungey spot with a great long marble bar, a few arcade games (like Street Fighter), a pool table and lots of couches and tables to relax at. Games are all free to play. And a DJ is spinning after dinner hours with a tiny dance floor in front of them, although you can dance anywhere in this whole place.

Barchef is well known in Toronto amongst alcohol lovers and conoisseurs. They pride themselves on being chefs of cocktails, not of food. They make their own bitters in-house, and have created a masterful menu of contemporary cocktsils that wow you through your senses. This place has a few bowling lanes, a pool table and even 1 ping pong table and a foosball table. The drinks are fairly decent, food is ok but if you want a fun night out with friends then you can reserve a bowling lane and have a few drinks and appetizers! If you're trying to go on a weekend, make sure to call them for a reservation a few days in advance, it gets booked very quickly. I love how huge High Park is, you can ride a bike here, go jogging here, have a picnic or do some yoga and fitness. In April there are beautiful japanese sakura cherry blossoms here. This is our biggest botanical garden in Toronto - it's a destination spot for wedding photography, which means - it's pretty there! Many flower types and sweet little bridges, rivers, and areas where you can plop your picnic blanket and take a snooze after a light picnic lunch. Sometimes it's quite busy on weekends, so I'd suggest go on a weekday.

Bach's Suite No. 1 in G Major for unaccompanied cello is one of the best-loved pieces of string music. Inspired By Bach, he worked with Vermont landscape artist Julie Moir Messervy to design a botanical garden that would reflect the sense of the piece. A spiral walkway winds through the garden, with markers along the way explaining the connections to different sections of Bach's Suite. Concerts take place through the summer most Thursdays at 7 pm and Sundays at 4 pm. Entrance is free and wheelchair accessible, with guided tours offered until late September and $6 audio tour rentals available year-round at the Marina Quay West office (539 Queens Quay West).

What was once the tallest freestanding structure in the world, is now 3rd tallest in the world! You can either see it from afar, or walk right up to the base of it. There are some observatory floors you can go up to at the top, and even a rotating restaurant up there! Try to go when the sun is out and the sky is clear, so you can get the best view of the City! Built in 1822, Campbell House is a heritage house and museum. It’s one of the few remaining examples of Georgian architecture in Toronto and the oldest remaining house from the Town of York. The building was actually constructed at a different site. It was used as a private residence and then an office building for more than a century before being auctioned off in the 1970s to whoever could remove it from the property. It’s now owned by the City of Toronto and used as a museum, art gallery and event space.

Corktown's Percy could easily be Toronto's most adorable street, a narrow cobblestone dead-end lane that leads to a city-run parkette with a distinctive Secret Garden vibe right beside the Richmond ramp off the Don Valley Parkway. A row of small houses that once belonged to workers at the nearby breweries and distillery in the late 1890s. Percy's other claim to fame is that it's one of 715 "private streets" in Toronto.

This place is very convenient because it is so close to the house, and they have all the basic needs you might have. They have eggs, butter, milk, cereal, some vegetables and fruits, toilet paper, sanitary pads, ziploc bags, deoderant, and even some frozen foods.
This is a bit of a further walk away than the other ones, but it is cheaper for many items.

The AGO, as we Torontonians call it. It's architecturally intriguing from the outside, as it was designed by Frank Gehry and was completed in its transformation in 2008. They feature artwork from allover the world. Check out First Thursdays, on thr first Thursday of the month, where they host a party for you while you can dance in the atrium, you can also go to some of the exhibitions and check out some art inbetween dance breaks!

It's a bit of a "long trip from downtown Toronto" and other disadvantages (e.g., scarce parking) of its location next to the DVP north of Eglinton. But it has a wonderful goal: "to encourage intercultural dialogue and exchange... in a time when the world of Islam and the Western world need to work together much more effectively at building mutual understanding."

Entertainment & Activities

"What started as a weekly fix of edgy jokes mixed with high and low performance art soon became a full-time force in the then trendy Yorkville area in Toronto. We quickly grew into an overnight sensation with a chain of clubs across the country, an exclusive talent agency, touring shows, festivals and television productions. The mission then, as it is now, is giving stage time to funny Canadians who want to develop and share their slanted take on life. Notable alumni include: Rick Moranis, Howie Mandel, Jim Carrey, Norm Macdonald, Russell Peters, Harland Williams, Shaun Majumder, Carla Collins, Gerry Dee, Gerry Bednob, The Bullard Brothers (Mike and Pat), Mike MacDonald, Elvira Kurt and voice animation star Maurice Lamarche. While Yuk’s talent is 99% Canadian pure, the other 1% reads like a comedy hall of fame. Pretty much any comedian worth their bit played our stages long before they were stars, including Robin Williams, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Sam Kinison, Bob Saget, Gilbert Gottfried, Margaret Cho, Eddie Izzard, Mort Sahl and even 60s guru Timothy Leary who was performing his own brand of standup philosophy. " YukYuk's is still going with monthly and weekly shows, check them out!

In 1921, Clarence Chant, president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, gave a lecture about a comet. In his audience, mining executive David Dunlap was enchanted. He died three years later, but his widow, Jessie Dunlap, offered to finance the construction of an observatory that would contain the second-largest astronomical telescope in the world. Eighty-one years after it first saw light, the observatory continues to inspire astronomers and thousands of visitors. Interested? Contact the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Evergreen Brickworks is a beautiful environmental community centre. It hosts workshops, art, bicycle repair shops and cafes. It has a wonderful history of being a kiln for making bricks. It has multiple green gardens and farmers markets. It is great for engagement photos, family outings and relaxing days from the hustle and bustle of the City. There's also a fantastic mural on one of the giant pillars, done by renowned street artist Faith47.

A series of outdoor artworks dedicated to the 2015 Pan Am Games punctuate some 80 kilometres of multi-use trails from Claireville Reservoir in Brampton to the shore of Lake Ontario south of Rouge Park. Art installations created in the months leading up to the Games connect 13 of the city's priority neighbourhoods and play on the themes of art, nature and diversity. Noteworthy: Underpass Park (pictured); the mural collaboration between UrbanArts and artist Dan Bergeron under the St. Phillips Bridge in Weston exploring the legacy of Hurricane Hazel. There's so much more to the Path!

Before Vancouver-based shoe store moved to its current location in 2015, the building housed a TD Bank with a vault in the back. After brainstorming about the nine-square-metre space, designers decided to turn it into a gravity room (aka an upside-down room) based on a vintage photo of store founder John Fluevog that hangs in every store. Featured: a Victorian-style loveseat and a bookshelf turned 90-degrees counterclockwise. Use the #VogVault for social media!
