Sometimes there is a lot of seaweed to deal with. Water temps can be slightly lower than elsewhere due to the direct ocean exposure.
Ocean Beach is our family favorite. Get in early as parking can be tough. But the water is safe and family friendly and the main street Newport is a great place to shop on a dime. The pier is fun as well.
