Food Scene
It has authentic Tibetan/Nepalese food with huge portions and reasonable prices, and the tax is already worked in. There's not much in the way of décor, but it's because they've put all the work into making the food amazing. It's also really quiet and they leave you alone at the table, and it's a quick and easy walk from the apartment.

Drinks & Nightlife
It's a neat little hole-in-the-wall about a 10-minute bicycle ride away, and right beside the Revue Cinema. Drink prices are on par with the rest of the city and the food is of pretty good quality (try the chicken wings or sweet potato fries), but the music is amazing and there are tons of local craft beers to choose from.

Parks & Nature
It feels like you've left the city without actually having to leave the city, and being able to take a ferry is an awesome method of transportation (plus, it's bicycle friendly). The islands are super easy to get around on with a bike and take a little more time on foot, with each island having its own distinct personality - check out Ward's to see neat houses, Hanlan's for beach swimming (head's up, it's clothing-optional) and stay away from Centre Island because it's usually crowded with kids. Food tends to be pricey there because of lack of options (and you can't buy alcohol), so bring your own.

It's an incredibly popular park in the city so you'll encounter tons of people, but the atmosphere is great. There are about a dozen cherry blossom trees that bloom in the spring, a tennis court, and TONS of green space where you can throw around a Frisbee, play catch, or just hang out on a blanket on the grass. If you bring alcohol, be super stealth about drinking it because cops DO patrol the park and will ticket you.

Arts & Culture
The venue has a perfect acoustic rating (i.e. you can't hear or feel the subway, sound is reflected from the oak under your seat, etc.), the seats are incredibly comfortable and there's not a bad one in the house, top-notch talent regularly plays there (it's more on the sophisticated, high-art side) and ticket prices are less expensive than at Roy Thomson Hall.

Sightseeing
It's one of the last non-gentrified neighbourhoods in the city and really easy to access. There are plenty of awesome indie places to eat, drink and shop at, and a neat park to hang out in if you want a break. Plus, there are plenty of bars to catch live music or dance at.

Shopping
Cheap prices, huge selection and tons of stores. The quality isn't always the best, but if you're in need of inexpensive clothing, this is a great place to go. The food shops are on the better side of quality, and their prices are better than grocery stores. It gets *really* busy, so be prepared for crowds and tons of people. The best authentic Chinese food is found north of the city in Markham and Thornhill, but that takes forever to get to and Chinatown is your best overall bet.

It's the biggest collection of farmer's markets in the city, and really accessible downtown. Every Saturday morning, you can score an awesome peameal bacon sandwich, pick up fresh produce and other food stuffs (Kozlik's mustard is amazing), sometimes hear buskers and check out locally made crafts.
