The Cascine Market is without a doubt the largest and economically outdoor market in Florence; It is held every Tuesday from 8 am to 2 pm at the Cascine Park that runs parallel to the Arno river. The Brancacci Chapel : the fresco cycle of Scenes from the life of St. Peter, mostly painted in collaboration by Masaccio and Masolino between 1425 and 1427. Masaccio's application of scientific perspective, unified lighting, use of chiaroscuro and skill in rendering the figures naturalistically established new traditions in Renaissance Florence that some scholars credit with helping to found the new Renaissance style. The young Michelangelo was one of the many artists who received his artistic training by copying Masaccio's work in the chapel.

The church has 38 side chapels (two chapels having been given over to doors), which contain a noteworthy amount of artworks. Michelangelo Buonarroti, when he was seventeen years old, was allowed to make anatomical studies on the corpses coming from the convent's hospital; in exchange, he sculpted a wooden crucifix which was placed over the high altar. Today the crucifix is in the octagonal sacristy that can be reached from the west aisle of the church.

Elegant perfume and beauty products top the gift wish list for many, at any time of the year. The Officina hosts frescoes, furnishings and ancient implements of the pharmacist’s trade. It was established by Dominican monks in 1221, by cultivating medicinal herbs in their garden, the friars’ original intent was to provide medications for their convent’s infirmary. The pharmacy came into prominence in the early 16th century thanks to Catherine de Medici, daughter of the most powerful family of Renaissance Florence. To commemorate her marriage at age 14 to Henry II, the future king of France, the monks of Santa Maria Novella created a special perfume named Acqua Della Regina (Water of the Queen).

For a very good aperitivo, night out or an elegant dinner. It is not a cheap place but it is amazing! The prestigious building was once part of the Palazzo delle Seggiole, first constructed during the Italian Renaissance. The central bar is in the middle of a nice courtyard with a vertical garden and a convertible roof. This solution leaves the possibility to have a bar where it is possible to smoke. Excellent cocktails until 4 am in the morning ! If you keep exploring the backyards you will enter a strange atmosphere, a mix of elegance and renaissance. Down the stairs, there are a few private rooms for special events. Ask the waiter to see them, they are more than happy to show you these hidden cellars, former kitchen, etc.

‘I trippaio di San Frediano - Piazza de' Nerli Located in Borgo San Frediano and very much appreciated by locals. There, you won’t find only tripe and lampredotto, but also other types of sandwiches - like hot dogs and hamburgers - and pasta, but you can’t come here without trying out one of those specialties with a glass of wine. Prices are very cheap, a sandwich costs around 3 euro. In general, you won't find expensive trippai in Florence, generally price may range from 3 to 4 euros more or less.

This delicatessen was founded by Leopoldo Procacci in 1885 and, due to its historical, artistic and artisan heritage, it quickly gained an excellent reputation with the Florentine population for its gastronomic delicacies made with truffles - The traditional panini served in Procacci : truffled panini (which is very typical in Tuscany’s kitchen), panini with truffles and foie gras, truffled anchovies and butter, prosciutto crudo and truffled artichoke cream, smoked salmon and asparagus cream, brie and caramelized onions. - The wine bar with its selection of fine wines by the glass, offers a simpler and lighter menu well suited to the relaxed wine bar atmosphere. - Procacci’s Gourmet Shop offers many specialty items.

This spot is one of the most panoramic and enchanting sites of Florence. In the district of San Niccolo’, go through the ancient gate “Porta San Miniato”, leave the medieval town walls behind and explore the delightful “Giardino delle Rose”, the Rose Garden. Keep walking along the steep staircase to the top of the hill. Most visitors stop in Piazzale Michelangelo to enjoy the view above Florence, but if you have a bit more patience and keep on walking uphill you will get to the “way up to heaven”, the most spiritual Gate of Florence. Anyone is welcome to enter the church of San Miniato al Monte and visit its medieval fresco paintings, mosaics and the extraordinary zodiac along the marble pavement. It looks like time has stopped here: you can still join the friars as they sing the Vespers in Latin at 6:30pm every evening in the crypt. You have to go to see it yourself!
