Cape Kidnappers is an outstanding bird-watching destination, with dramatic coastal views and gannets. For avid cyclists (I have two bikes available for hire) it's just over 31 km to Cape Kidnappers, relax in the cafe and lull the afternoon away, before returning. The cycle track is flat.

A Tractor trip along the beach to visit the Gannet Colony. you need to check a few days in advance due to tide times. check out their web site www.gannets.com

Cape Kidnappers is a craggy, but stunning, peninsula named in commemoration of an incident during Captain Cook’s 1769 voyage. Maori traders seized Cook’s Tahitian cabin boy who they thought was being held against his will. When Cook’s men fired on the Maori canoe, the cabin boy escaped and returned to the ship. The iconic pale cliffs of Cape Kidnappers are viewable from the full length of Marine Parade in Napier, and are especially eye-catching in the late afternoon sun.

The Gannet colony is a must see on Cape Kidnappers. There is also a very exclusive golf course out there.
