The city's main museum, the São Paulo Art Museum - MASP marks the heart of Paulista Avenue. The space is among the main sights and is one of the most sought after by visitors who arrive in the capital of São Paulo. Designed by architect Lina Bo Bardi, the MASP building is famous for the four red pillars that support the large 74-meter free span. The place is a meeting point for residents, protesters and workers. The large venue also hosts cultural performances and events such as the Antiques Fair, which takes place on Sundays. Although the red facade of the building has become a postcard, it is inside the building that the MASP's great attraction is. The museum offers one of the most important collections in the country and is able to delight all fans of artwork. The set of works began to be assembled by Assis Chateaubriand, creator of MASP. The museum was opened in 1968 and today has over 8,000 pieces for exhibition. The space is already small for the size of the collection and the MASP prepares a large expansion. Among the works of the museum, stand out national names such as: Candido Portinari, Di Cavalcanti, Anita Malfatti and Almeida Junior. International art is represented by Rafael, Mantegna, Botticceli, Delacroix, Renoir, Manet, Monet, Degas, Cezanne, Picasso, Modigliani, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Matisse and Chagall, among others. One of the most prominent exhibitions is the “Art of France: Delacroix to Cézanne” collection, which welcomes visitors right at the entrance. In the show are pieces dating from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. The MASP presents in temporary shows part of the permanent collection and also exhibitions in partnership with other museums in the world. Inside, you can buy beautiful design items, souvenirs from exhibitions, and enjoy the restaurant and café. Take a bus or metrô from the bulding. It is about 20 minutes. It is located at Paulista Av. 1578. It do not open on Monday.
