Stunning walk down to thrashing waves and beautiful rock pools. A very special place.

The beautiful Bushrangers Bay comprises a sandy beach surrounded by basalt cliffs on the ocean side of the Mornington Peninsula. Swimming is not recommended at this site as the beach is unpatrolled and often hazardous due to strong rips and large waves. This serene location is contrasted by dark and brooding headlands and wild waves that often crash onto jagged rocks guarding the entrance to the bay. Bushrangers Bay can be accessed via a walk along Main Creek from the Boneo Road car park and picnic area (2.5km). This section of the Two Bays Walking Track provides fine views and passes through shady Banksia groves. Alternatively, follow the 2.6km Bushrangers Bay Track from the Cape Schanck car park to see some of the best coastal scenery near Melbourne. There is limited or no mobile phone reception.

If you love walking, this is one of my favourites. It will take you to a beach that you can only access on foot (or perhaps a helicopter!) You will very likely see a few kangaroos and other wildlife along the way - and the odd cow or two from the neighbouring farms. Pack a picnic if you like - and definitely your water bottle. You'll also see the lighthouse and beautiful coastline.
