This Indian restaurant offers Nepalese dishes as well and was written up in Washingtonian Magazine. Delicious food, attentive wait staff and only 3 miles from my place. Ask for Ram and tell him Ginny sent you :)

This place offers colorful Mexican decor, friendly wait staff, a large menu and incredibly reasonable prices for huge servings! Very family friendly with special deals for children on Mondays.

Built in the 1600's, Old Town Alexandria is rich in history and easy to get to. There are lots of bars and restaurants, antique shops, The Torpedo Factory (a renovated --yes, torpedo factory from WWII) which houses artists now.
From Old Town, you can even take a water taxi to cross the Potomac River over to National Harbor.
