Drinks & Nightlife

Easy to walk past on your way to the station, a real local gem, its atmospheric lighting and 1920s decor/music creates a perfect place to catch up with friends and loved ones for a drink or two. You'll need to get there early to get a seat, but the locals are friendly enough if you need to share a table with someone, its very cosy indeed. try the pornstar martinis or the grapefruit beer for a unique experience.

Its on our doorstep and whilst its not the cheapest in the area the garden is nice to enjoy in the summer months and the food is of a good standard. In the evening a couple of pints in the snug is cosy and the time will run away while you sit and catch up with friends and loved ones

Parks & Nature

One of my favourite places full stop. Once an ancient fort, the earthworks that form the fortifications were built around the beginning of the Middle Iron-Age possibly around 250 BC. It has a feeling of magic about the place and I imagine people working in the flint mines, building huts and battles with invaders. If you're adventurous, it takes about 10 minutes to run to the start of one of the paths from the house and its great in the morning before the world starts to wake. Also a great spot for a picnic or flying a kite. Now home to a string of ponies, which adds to the magic of the place.

Absolutely beautiful gardens where the kids will love playing hide and seek. Discover the walled gardens or the coy carp and enjoy a yummy cake and cup of tea in the cafe. You can also walk up to the top of Highdown hill after for the views of the coast. Perhaps take a picnic and make an afternoon of it up there.

Food Scene

If you enjoy good food and in a historic and atmospheric location this is for you. The prices reflect the amazing standard so not for those on a budget, but if you're looking for something special then this is for you. 5 minutes walk from our door so you can enjoy the wine without the worry of getting home.

Arts & Culture

Its one of the best-preserved castles in the country and the re-enactment days where enthusiasts dress in armour and get into character, make you feel like you're stepping back in time. Parts of the castle date back to 1067, but the kids won't be asking for the ipad, when they can watch real battles raging and falconry demos. A must see over the summer months

Set in the awe-inspiring grounds of the national trust gardens of Petworth park, the house dating back to early 1600's, is a real treasure trove for the classic art lover. One of the greatest picture collections in the Trust - includes works by Titian, Bosch, Claude, Ruisdael, Teniers, Van Dyck, Lely, Kneller, Reynolds, Gainsborough, Blake - and a magnificent collection of landscapes by Turner (a friend of the 3rd Earl of Egremont.
