Food Scene

Doce Real is an obligatory stop in Príncipe Real to pick up local pastries such as pasteis de nata and queijadas or simply to enjoy a refreshing drink. But the attraction is not necessarily the pastries or the juices, but the charming 1920s interior that is as Lisbon as it gets, with tiles, stained glass, and a beautiful ceiling filled with golden details.

Not only the decoration is homey and beautiful, but the food is full of flavor. The buffet style brunch also has items for the vegans and the gluten-intolerants, which is a plus in my book – and when you’re done, go for a walk around the square and enjoy the area – take note of this as the perfect plan for a lazy Sunday! (Brunch is from 10:00 – 17:00 on Sundays.)

Drinks & Nightlife

Founded in 1986, Pavilhão Chinês occupied what once was a former grocery store. The cocktails are the strong point of the house: the presentation is flawless and they’re great. Try one, I’m pretty sure you won’t regret it. And don’t leave without playing a game of pool – or at least without seeing both locals and tourists putting their pool playing skills to the test!
