Arts & Culture

Achilion palace is only a 5 minute drive away (3klm) from the village. It was built in 1890 by Empress Elizabeth of Austro-Hungary, known as Sissy, as her summer villa in her beloved Corfu. The statues of Achilles and the architecture in general, reveal her love of Classical Greece. Elizabeth was murdered by an Italian who stabbed her in Geneva, and Kaiser William II of Prussia bought the property and he also used it as a summer residence. Until few years ago the Corfu Casino was housed there, but now is museum, historic site and conference centre

Parks & Nature

Starting from the village there are many trails on the slopes of the mountain that can be crossed on foot or by bicycle. These paths are hidden in the lush vegetation and lead to the villages of Gastouri, Stavros and Agioi Deka, and some trails go to the water sources with their aqueduct. By these paths there are many small churches scattered on the slopes of the mountain, such as Agia Paraskevi, Agia Triada, Agios Nikolaos Vrysiliotis, Taksiarches, Evaggelistria and others. The effort in walking up to Stavros or Agioi Deka will reward you with superb views over Benitses.
