Hands down my favorite restaurant--it never disappoints. Great small plates, yummy sangria, a great place for a date or with a good friend. And check out their recycled decor on the walls! Most likely you will need a reservation or prepare to wait a while.

I don't have to tell you about Tartine, because everyone else will. If you like French pastries, this is not to miss. But you must decide if it's worth waiting in an obscene line for.

This isn't my favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood (see Four Barrell) but it is close by, and many people swear by it. Walk down to the bottom of our block, turn right, and look for the red banner.

Shopping

This store is 3 floors of finely chosen vintage "Stuff"--too bad it's all covered in my drool. I just lust after Stuff

Entertainment & Activities

This is a really cool collection of historic nickelodeon machines (early arcade games)--worth going to the touristy area of Fisherman's Wharf to see it! (And it is very close to SF Maritime National Historical Park which I also recommend)

This is a huge people watching scene. It gets super crowded on sunny days. There is a great playground for kids too.

I would be remiss if I didn't recommend this wonderful little historical park where you can climb aboard and tour historic sailing and steam ships--it is where I work! Don't miss the free Visitor Center across from Hyde Stret Pier as well! You will learn a lot about the waterfront history of SF!

My absolute favorite place to take out of town visitors is the city’s Victorian-era greenhouse, the Conservatory of Flowers, in Golden Gate Park—an essential spot for plant lovers!!

This is a tiny little green grocer with some other essentials. I would not recommend doing your whole grocery shopping here, it is definitely overpriced. But good for milk and other staples!

I love Gus's--it is a family run market with a good selection of prepared foods and a butcher and fish counter as well. It is a long walk from our house--best to take an Uber or Lyft, especially if you will be carrying grocery bags back.

This is a small Whole Foods, in the neighborhood adjacent to the Mission. You have to walk up a BIG hill to get there from my house, so it is best to Uber/Lyft!

Getting Around

When taking public transit, I would recommend walking to 24th Street instead of 16th Street BART--it is slightly less seedy than 16th. But our house is really equidistant between the two.
