Food Scene

A cosy café in the centre of Dwellingup. Great for coffee/cake. They also do delicious soup in winter and have a specials board which changes daily.

Drinks & Nightlife

Just down the road from Jesk Cottage. Set in a beautiful orchard with plenty of space for the kids to run around. They have a big fire going in winter. Great tasting cider and they have recently started doing some limited food options (cheese boards, etc). Highly recommended but limited opening hours, so check their website.

Good, hearty portions of traditional pub food, parmis, pies, currys, etc. Kids menu available. There is a separate dining room and kids aren't allowed in the bar. They have started putting on Skimpy Nights on Thursdays in the bar (not a great choice in my opinion) so I'd definitely avoid it then as the bar is still visible when you walk in and you'll need to have a whole conversation with your children, as I did, about why those ladies aren't wearing any clothes, why would they do that and is that really their job???

Sightseeing

A beautiful spot to stock up on fruit and veg. The views are stunning. In the summer they have coffee and ice cream sellers along with live music. They also have water slides when it's hot enough. There is a cherry orchard on the same road which is also well worth a visit when it's open around Christmas. The cherry season is unfortunately all too brief though.

The train runs twice a day at weekends and on public holidays. There is also a dinner train on certain days. It's well worth a trip and isn't too long for little kids.

Stock up on tourist information here. There was a massive fire in Dwellingup in the 60s which almost wiped out the entire town. (I think 2 houses were left standing on Holyoake Road, the rest were destroyed. Jesk Cottage was transported to Dwellingup from Waroona by truck after the fire.) There is a very interesting exhibition on in the information centre about the fire.

Parks & Nature

Great for swimming in the river in summer. Canoeing is also very popular and kayaks can be hired in Dwellingup. There are lots of walk trails which are great in slighty cooler months.

Arts & Culture

Lots of modal emus running around. An elevated walk way. Wood crafts to buy. We also did an afternoon's painting course as a family with Wendy Binks (her twisted emus feature all over Dwellingup) here and had a wonderful time. Our art efforts are hanging over the sink in the kitchen.

Entertainment & Activities

If you've got a head for heights and an adventurous spirit then this is the place for you. You'll discover muscles you never knew you had. It's great for kids (check out their website for minimum height restrictions) and adults. It does get very busy at certain times so book ahead. It's quite expensive but I think well worth a visit. Head back to the Blue Wren for a well earned cake afterwards!
