Whether you are planning a day trip or a longer vacation, there are plenty of fun things to do in Anacortes! Surrounded by water, on Fidalgo Island, but accessible by bridges, Anacortes is conveniently situated between Seattle and Vancouver BC. While it is the favored departure point for the ferry to the San Juan Islands, it is also very worthwhile to discover the many things to do in Anacortes and the rest of this beautiful island! There are beautiful views, parks, beaches, lakes, hiking trails, bike paths, farm-to-table restaurants, small town breweries, fishing charters, whale watching excursions, kayak tours, a walkable waterfront and marina, and stunning sunsets. Old Town Anacortes has great restaurants, fun little shops, antique stores, and art galleries. Visitors often come to Anacortes and to the San Juan Islands for the seaside activities, and Anacortes has plenty of things to do! You can take sea kayak tours, rent stand up paddleboards or recreational kayaks and explore quiet bays and coves. There are quiet beaches, perfect for picnicking or watching the sun setting over the San Juan Islands. You can look for whales from the rocky shorelines of Washington Park or take a whale-watching boat. There are miles and miles of hiking and biking trails to explore. A nice option is to take the short ferry ride to Guemes Island and enjoy a bike ride or drive through a pastoral landscape with a marine backdrop. Cranberry Lake is the closest to our home, with hiking, birding, swimming, kayaking, and a large wooded area with hidden gems. Visitors can get maps of the trails within the ACFL online or in town.
