Flowerpot Island is part of Fathom Five National Marine Park and is famous for the two rock pillars or sea stacks called the "Flowerpots" on its eastern shoreline. The Flowerpots are a type of sea stack, formed over many years as wind, rain, waves, and ice hammered away at the cliff that once stood alongside the water’s edge. The softer rock eroded more quickly, leaving the harder rock remaining in the shape of flowerpots with trees growing on top. There are 4.3 kilometers of well-marked trails that cover the east side of this 200-hectare Island and limited dockage at Beachy Cove for shallow-draft vessels. Book your cruise with the Blue Heron Company in Tobermory! These tours book up quickly so be sure to book in advance!

Moderate hike to some of the most beautiful vistas in the area. Normally quieter than other areas. The trail is a little tough, hiking shoes and long pants are highly recommended. Not great for children. Paid parking off Dyers Bay Rd.

Consejos para la ciudad

Reserva antes de ir

Book in advance

Always book activities like boat tours or park parking in advance to avoid disappointment. Most tours and parking are booked every weekend all summer!
Costumbres y cultura

Winter is quiet!

Please be prepared for a quiet stay in the winter season. Many of the restaurants in Tobermory are seasonal. There may be only 1 or 2 restaurants open. The National Park stays open, and you can enjoy the trails for hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing, but do not expect the trails to be groomed. You may also be responsible for clearing some snow at your cottage rental.

National Park and other excursions

Tobermory is a small town located at the end of a peninsula. It is the last stop unless you are traveling by ferry to Manitoulin Island. Be prepared by booking your excursions in advance! 1. Book parking at the Bruce Peninsula National Park - The Grotto / Cyprus Lake 2. Book parking to visit Halfway Log Dump 3. Go early to park at Singing Sands Beach as it will fill up quickly 4. Book your cruises to see the Shipwrecks and Flowerpot Island in advance.

Be prepared to carry out your garbage

Many of the natural areas on the Bruce Peninsula do not provide garbage disposal. Garbage attracts wildlife, and having disposal units in nature is not a good idea. Bring a bag to place your garbage into and take it out with you. NO NOT leave garbage anywhere. Do not leave diapers anywhere. Bring them out with you. Please help to keep the beautiful Saugeen Bruce Peninsula beautiful.
Qué empacar

Wear proper foot wear and long pants

Its nice to get that selfie of your loved one wearing their clubbing outfit - but in reality - it is not a good idea to wear anything but hiking gear when hiking the trails on the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula. Long pants are recommended as we do have ticks with confirmed lime disease in the area.
Qué empacar

Bug Spray

Spring has black flies, summer has mosquitos, and deer/horse flies. And let's not forget TICKS! Bring along some good bug spray and wear long pants to avoid ticks having a good munch on your legs.
