Folks, Lexington has some awesome vintage shops. This is the newest on the scene and they are already ruffling the feathers of the old vanguard. Go check them out.

Three years on the scene and this place continues to evolve. Great vintage rugs, art and furniture. Their clothing room is bonkers.

All bar, no glamour and certainly not your typical Lexington bar but the neighborhood spot for a good pour. Only a few blocks walk from the house. Typically strong beverages. 🙃

A lovely place to see a local production or a national touring show. Acoustics are good and the theater too is beautiful. Comfy seats even if you’re a plump 6’3”.

Food scene

Every Tuesday and Thursday (in season) brings fresh veggies, flowers, baked goods, etc. The best part…it’s literally across the street. On Saturday mornings, the market is much bigger and moves downtown…only a few blocks away.

This place. A crisp spring or fall night by the fire on the patio with an in-house over-the-top charcuterie and a bottle of inexpensive but delicious Cava bubbles…you found our happy spot. We also snuggle up inside when weather doesn’t permit BUT our order never changes. ❣️

If you’re fortunate to catch Lexington on a fair weather day, request a roof top table and enjoy the cuisine at this hometown institution. The proprietor is nearly always there making sure your service and food are impeccable. Dining indoors in the main dining room is an eclectic visual treat if weather doesn’t permit al fresco.

Go for the beignet bag and stay for breakfast. Kentucky proud ingredients give a farm fresh quality. Always, order the beignet and dive into the sugary goodness. It’s not Cafe du Monde BUT it’s pretty darn close.

A McMurtry mansion surrounded by a neighborhood in Renaissance. The art shows here are often quirky but always delightful and, most often, local. If a show is hung, you oughta visit.

Hidden inside a multi-purpose building behind several heavy institutional doors is a wonderfully curated collection of ART. If you love art and have a free afternoon, it’s five blocks away and well worth your efforts. Check out hours before going and walk or Uber to avoid the parking nightmare of Campus Life. Incidentally, the halls of the University’s hospital are filled with great local Kentucky folk art. I’d say they have one of the biggest collections these days.

Wonder where Kentucky Derby winners go to retire. Look no further than neighboring Georgetown, Kentucky. It's a quick and lovely road trip (about 20 mins) to visit up close with over 200 thoroughbred horses. Definitely a Kentucky experience.

Wanna see your next Camry on the production line? OK, take your pic of Toyota vehicle....on any given day, they're probably being built at this enormous Toyota Plant in Georgetown, KY (about 30 mins by car). Tours are huge fun and informative. So much to appreciate about Berea College. This private College located approx 30-40 mins by car away from Lexington is worth the trip. The College offers a unique student work program which pays for their College tuition. While being tuition free, it is academically and culturally one of the best Colleges in the US....often referred to as the poor man's Harvard. College Campus tours are offered frequently; additionally, Historic Boone Tavern (on the College square) offers southern hospitality and cuisine and there are wonderful opportunities to see student craft industries that are sought after worldwide. The College also owns and maintains some of the best hiking trails available in the area. Our personal "go-to" day hike is the East or West Pinnacle trails...but there are many other opportunities to climb high at Berea. An excellent day trip.
