It’s a 15 minute drive to Goolwa, but worth the trip for this delicious Thai food. You can also order takeaway, and during peak holiday times it’s worth phoning early in the evening to ensure you don’t miss out. Bookings recommended to dine in at the restaurant.

Local Cafes and Quick Bites

Great places for brunch, lunch and coffee
A trip to Port Elliot is not complete without at least one visit to the famous bakery! The queues can be daunting at times, however the bakery is so well staffed that you won’t be waiting long. They’re open early 7 days a week and make great take away coffee too.

Iconic cafe and restaurant with views to die for over Horseshoe Bay. Grab some takeaway fish & chips, drinks and ice creams during the day, or enjoy a proper restaurant lunch or dinner. Might be a wait for takeaway on really busy days. You can order online and collect takeaway.

Traditional fish/chicken and chips, burgers etc. Nice hot chips. Be aware - they close at 8pm, sometimes earlier at very quiet times so don’t leave it too late or you’ll be hangry! 😁

Sightseeing

At the top of The Strand, the Harbour Masters Reserve is the start of a gorgeous walk which is easily managed by young and old. The views are spectacular! Spot the resident seals near Ladies Beach, enjoy watching the waves crashing onto the enormous granite rocks and maybe even do a bit of rock-hopping, a favourite with kids. This walk is really easy to access from The Sandcastle too - you can start from the opposite end and finish up in the heart of Port Elliot for a well earned coffee!

Whale Watching 🐳 During the winter months this is a very reliable place to spot whales. There is a viewing platform which provides a good vantage point. This is a very short drive just along from Port Elliot towards Middleton.

This is the most magnificent spot to watch the sunrise or sunset, with sweeping views of the stunning coastline. Definitely worth a visit… head to the top of The Strand and you’ll see the Obelisk and the lookout just a little further on. Good parking nearby.

Fun and Adventure

Have a blast learning to surf at neighbouring Middleton. Fun for both kids and adults. They provide your board and wetsuit, and frequently teach school groups, so they are great for complete beginners. Middleton is a good beach to learn to surf, as the water is quite shallow a long way out, with frequent small to medium waves so you can generally stand up fairly easily (while trying to get back on the board!). Definitely a full body workout (and if you’re a middle aged newbie like me, your arms will definitely feel it!! 😁)

SO much fun for bigger kids and adults. Amazing views while zooming around on quad bikes. The tour is led the entire way, and you can choose a more laid back scenic trip or a more adventurous one. Our entire family, from teenagers to 75yr olds loved this and want to do it again. Highly recommended!!

This journey will take you on an incredibly scenic adventure with an ascent to the top of coastal cliffs near Port Elliot for picturesque coastal views and the chance to see Souther Right Whales during migration season. Guests are given the option for a return trip when booking their tickets either online or at the ticket booth at Goolwa Depot”

Urimbirra Wildlife Park is located in Hindmarsh Valley just 6 minutes from Port Elliot via Waterport Road. There is a range of Australian animals and a park for you to explore every day (including Public Holidays). Pet a kangaroo, pat a koala, feed an emu and watch a professional snake handler. Nice outing for families - our teenagers still enjoy visiting Urimbirra.
