The Tahlequah ferry at the southern tip of the island will take you for a 10-minute ride to Tacoma, which has an amazing park and zoo at Point Defiance (right next to the receiving ferry dock). The Museum District is fantastic with the Museum of Glass (HIGHLY recommended), Washington State History Museum, and America's Car Museum. They also have a decent restaurant and theater scene.
