For a smart, casual evening, Amano or Ortolana are superb options, both owned by the Hip Group and within walking distance of our Residence. They offer a European-inspired menu with produce straight from their own farm…it doesn’t get any fresher than this. The menu changes regularly, and we can assure you, you won’t be disappointed. They are easily two of the most beautiful spots in Auckland and are very popular with discerning diners. At Ortolana, you will be seated beneath the twinkling fairy lights…a romantic and magical backdrop for an intimate city soirée. www.amano.nz | www.ortolana.co.nz

A finalist in the Metro Peugeot Restaurant of the Year 2019 awards for Best Smart Restaurant and Best Drinks List, we always have fun here, a testament first and foremost to the buzz of happy chatter, mood lighting and cool music which carries diners happily into the night, or through to the Roji Bar for a late-night cocktail. The food is an undeniable drawcard: this is the only restaurant in Auckland shining a spotlight on Nikkei cuisine, a finessed fusion of Japanese-Peruvian flavour that arose from the Japanese community’s mass migration to Peru. Executive chef and co-owner Yukio Ozeki honed his skills at Ebisu, but it’s at Azabu he gets to play - expert cuts of sashimi are cured lightly in spikes of aji and soy, and skewers of wagyu are paired with chimichurri sauce. Eat early with the kids and they’ll be happy as anything with their own smart bento box. azabuponsonby.co.nz

Another restaurant worthy of consideration is Cassia, conceived by the incredible Sid Sahrawat and executed by a hard-working kitchen team, offering beautiful, ingredient-led Modern Indian cuisine. A laneway underground cavern, which an out-of-towner would never have ventured to, will remind you of past travels when you were lucky enough to experience the best international restaurants, by sheer chance. Metro Peugeot’s Restaurant of the Year 2019’s Best Smart Restaurant winner and Finalist for the Supreme Award, it takes food seriously and you can be sure the cocktails they concoct for you will taste like they are meant to. Very little to complain about, and a lot to love. cassiarestaurant.co.nz

After a three-year hiatus, Michael Meredith (perhaps best known for his award-winning fine-dining restaurant Merediths), made a triumphant return to the industry with new venture Mr Morris. Located in Britomart in what was previously Cafe Hanoi, Meredith and head chef Fabio Bernardini have created a menu devoted to using local, ethical, sustainable, and seasonal produce to create “a modern Pacific and New Zealand experience”, perfectly exemplified with the likes of passionfruit pani popo, salt and vinegar oyster mushrooms and smoked eel devilled egg.

An original and enriching day trip experience, a visit to Sculptureum, a sculpture gallery (private collection) and garden in Matakana (located approx. 1-hour drive from Point Residence), followed by lunch at the award-winning Rothko Restaurant (on-site) is a perfect day out. 2019 Runner-up for Best Wine and Finalist for Best New Restaurant, it is set on a magnificent, covered veranda of the indoor section of the Sculptureum. A winery restaurant, it serves up refined and comforting food, with a modern twist. Well worth the road trip through scenic vineyards and rolling countryside…idyllic!
