Food scene

This diner is worth the wait! Stop by the Lark and Owl bookstore while you're there - it's just around the corner. From their website: The Monument Cafe is a locally owned and operated restaurant designed to be reminiscent of the Texas roadside cafes of the 1920s to the 1940s. We serve only fresh meats, vegetables and desserts. Everything we serve is cooked and prepared in the restaurant by our employees. We buy as many of our vegetables as possible from local farmers as well as raise several vegetables and herbs in our own garden. Our meats are free of hormones, antibiotics, steroids, and animal byproducts. We serve local, non homogenized, low temperature pasteurized milk as well as local free-range yard eggs. We want you to have a great meal, friendly and professional service, and to leave the restaurant feeling that you received value for your money and wanting to return.

Frozen margaritas/tapas and the architecture are worth the visit. Located on the San Gabriel River, multi-level deck. Check website for reservations: https://www.elmonumentogeorgetown.com/ From their website: Owned and operated by the restaurateurs who pioneered the celebrated Monument Cafe, also in Georgetown, diners can expect the same generous hospitality at El Monumento. Sourcing the freshest ingredients available, El Monumento serves home-style, made-from-scratch Mexican fare. El Monumento's extensive daily menu includes a variety of quintessential Mexican Aperitivos, such as Queso Flameado, a blend of melted quesadilla and Oaxacan cheese, poblano peppers and caramelized onions. An assortment of traditional-style soups and salads round out the appetizer menu. Las Signaturas dishes include crispy Pork Cheeks served with fried parsley and corn tortillas; Shrimp Relleno with roasted poblano, crimini mushrooms, garlic, spinach and jitomate sauce; mesquite-grilled Texas gulf redfish served with garlic aioli. In addition to El Monumento's staple dishes, many vegetarian and gluten-free options are also offered. And the Postre menu includes traditional house-made favorites like Tres Leches Strawberry Shortcake. El Monumento's grounds and architecture draw from Mexican traditions, and showcase classic forms and materials, and plants of rural South Texas and Mexico. The majestic 7,700-square-foot restaurant is of modern design and includes four separate dining areas, an open kitchen, an interior courtyard, a terrace overlooking the Blue Hole lagoon, and a dining pavilion with glass walls that overlooks the courtyard.
