Surrounded by nature
Lake Michigan 6-mile beach 5 minutes north; National Dunes park to east and west; walking trails everywhere, from Miller woods to West Beach to Long Lake (south); good biking; there should be some maps in house.
Chicago downtown and museums less than 1 hour away by car or train.

dogs required to be on leash on the beach. no lifeguards except at Marquette Beach (2 miles west on Oak.) and Wells St. (4 blocks east) Snacks available on Wells St. and Marquette beaches.
Watch for ticks in the grasses and woods. Best to use permethrin for ticks and check yourselves with shower when you get back to house. Most ticks come in the warm months and in the woods and on dogs. Beaches and trails seem fine. If you really want to know more check your internet for NW Indiana.
