Prattsville is just about 20 minutes south of us that houses Jim's Great American, that is the nearest full grocery store. There is also an Ace hardware there.
Prattsville was named for Zaddock Pratt who famously had stone carvings depicitng his life carved into the rocks there. You can visit it, just look for "Pratt's Rock". It is a pretty steep climb up but further trails reveal beautiful views from the top.
Prattsville also had a small swimming hole which can be accessed from the bridge off 23

Middleburgh is the main town from Vroman's nose. There is a great brewpub green wolf brewing co. there, a local hardware store, a diner and nearby gas station. The coffee shop when its open is a nice place to chill.

Vroman's Nose not only encompasses the basic easy and difficult trails, but also notes of interest. These include the summit, which is a large, flat surface left by glacial movements. A very wide view of Schoharie Valley is seen from here. The hike is also sight of historical value. There is also a location near the summit that may have been used by Patriot snipers during the Revolution.
It isn't a long hike (1.7 miles) and it is pretty much straight up. We have seen a lot of smaller children on the trail so it seems doable for them too.
