Another example of the great fortification capacity of the Venetians, but also a marvel of architectural art built by the Venetians with the forced labor of the inhabitants from 1576 to 1645. At that time, the Venetians, with the constant Turkish threat to the island, considered necessary the complete fortification of the city that had meanwhile expanded far beyond the old fortress. During the British occupation, the British High Commissioner Adam in 1819 decided to build a small house, so that it could easily fit him and his family. But he exaggerated a bit and instead of a house, he finally left this wonderful Georgian-style palace in Corfu. The building was designed by the English Colonel Engineer Sir George Whitmore (1775-1862) and is majestic but also elegant despite its large size. It is the largest palace building in Greece after the palaces of Otto in Athens, ie the current Parliament.

At the junction of Eugeniou Voulgareos, Vrachlioti and Montsenigou streets, almost in the center of the old town was Anunciata, a church dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin and in St. Lucia, was the Catholic Church of Lontsiada as the Kokyers knew it. Today only the characteristic bell tower of Anunciata remains, which is a Monument of pan-European importance due to its connection with one of the most important events in world history, one of the largest naval battles ever, the naval battle of Nafpaktos in 1571 between the fleets of the Holy Alliance. it consisted of the fleets of Venice, Spain, Naples, Sicily, Genoa and Malta against the hitherto undefeated Ottoman fleet.

The beautiful Achillion is located 10 km south of Corfu town and 3 north of Benitsa next to the mountain village of Gastouri, is the palace built by the Empress of Austria Elizabeth who became known as the sad Queen Sissy. The queen, whose life became a movie, singled out Corfu on a tour of the Mediterranean islands and decided to settle here trying to overcome the grief from the tragic losses suffered by her family and the illness that afflicted her.

On this tiny rocky island and at the top is the Byzantine church of Pantokrator, it is of the 11th century and is surrounded by dense vegetation. It is the first characteristic landscape that every new visitor sees when approaching Corfu airport, and is located in the geographical center of the island, very close to the city, between the Kanoni peninsula, Perama and Benitses. It is easy to visit since from the beach below Kanoni there are several small boats that can take you, but due to the fact that the church of the Pantocrator is a monastery, visits are typically only allowed on August 6th.

On the hill opposite the departure terminal there is a piece of wall that is believed to be 2500 years old, is what is left of the watchtower and the walls of the ancient city. Residents here often find cannon balls and ceramics when digging their gardens. Inland are the ruins of the temple of Athena, and just outside the gates of the palace Mon Repos was found a large archaeological site that is still under evaluation by archaeologists. The Cannon was named after a cannon placed on the southern tip of the peninsula by the French in 1798 - enhancing the island's protection, the cannon has always been there to this day. In Victorian times a walk in the cool of the night was popular, there were men in their uniforms and ladies in crinoline. Today visitors are more casually dressed, but still enjoy their coffee in one of the bars overlooking the Vlacherna Monastery - a small whitewashed building said to be a miniature replica of the famous Vlacherna Monastery in Istanbul.

The most famous religious monument of the city, a building clearly influenced by the Italian ecclesiastical art, is on Kalohairetou Street in front of Heroes Square, the famous Plakada of Agios. There is the Relic of the Patron Saint and patron saint of Corfu, Agios Spyridon, who was transported to Corfu from Constantinople after the fall in 1453. After the fall of the city, the monk Gregory Polyeuctus, in his attempt to save the relics of Saint Spyridon, as well as the relics of the empress - Saint Theodora, hid them in bags of straw in order to transport them to Mount Athos. However, various events took place on the road, as a result of which he reached Paramythia, where he found his fellow priest Georgios Kalochairetis and handed him the Holy Relics, so in 1456 they arrived in Corfu. Since then the sanctuary of St. Spyridon changes many owners and is bequeathed, or given as a dowry to each other. It is transferred from church to church with the risk that at some point it will be transferred to Venice until it finally passes into the possession of the Voulgaris family. The Family managed in 1577 to be granted a space by the Venetian authorities, in which the current church of Agios Spyridon was built, where the holy relic of the Saint remains to this day. According to tradition, the Saint saved the inhabitants from epidemics in the past and twice from the raids of the Turks in 1673 and 1716. The roof of the temple depicting scenes from the life of the Saint and the Evangelists is impressive, The relic of the Saint is kept in a silver shrine of the 19th century and is a sacred heirloom of the church and a reference point of the religious faith of the Corfiots.

The palace of Mon Repo is a neoclassical building east of Paleopolis, the ancient city of Corfu. Built in 1830 by British Commissioner Sir Frederick Adam at the beginning of the Cannon Peninsula, opposite the ruins of Paleopolis, it is a beautiful building but not as large and majestic as the palace of Achilles. It has good and large landscaped gardens surrounded by old Greek monuments of ancient Corfu and stunning sea views to the entire east coast of Corfu. After the union with Greece in 1864 it was granted to the former royal family and was used by it as a summer residence. Today it belongs to the Greek state and is used by the Municipality of Corfu, mainly for important or festive meetings. Today, Mon Repo has been turned into a museum and historical site with a large park full of archeological treasures that everyone can visit. It is an ideal place for pleasant walks under the shade of very large and old trees. One of the best exhibitions of his museum is the collection of old photographs of Corfu, very interesting and informative.

It is located at the northwestern tip of the island about 40 km from the city of Corfu. There are some beautiful houses in the village, decorated with arches and lintels that show that there once was a prosperous community. Here one can enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the landscape but also the majestic beach with high rocks, while it is quite close to the lively nightlife of Sidari. Longas beach is located under very high rocks and is accessible by steps, its width is relatively small and when there is a ripple it can cover the whole rock up to water. It is a rare geological phenomenon, it looks majestic both from the top where the view below causes dizziness..

Throughout the northwest and north coast of the island there are many beautiful beaches for swimming, but also some incredible places, such as Porto Timoni. Porto Timoni is a double beach between the bay of Agios Georgios ton Pagon and Afionas, a thin strip of land connects Corfu with a ledge in the sea that would otherwise be an island, the only drawback is that it is only accessible by boat from the sea .

Just below Paleokastritsa are the Ermones, it is a dramatically impressive landscape of a bay between two steep slopes on the west coast of Corfu. Many of those who interpret the Odyssey claim that this is the place where Odysseus arrived in distressed shipwreck on the island of Phaeacus and found the beautiful Princess Nafsika and her slaves washing their clothes. But if he arrived now he would find a wide variety of places of high aesthetics and quality to stay !!!.

It used to be a village, concentrated around the well in the middle of the site, but now it is a small town, with banks, supermarkets, schools, etc. The old village exists, but is located outside the current center, hidden behind the modern buildings facing the main road, ending in the lanes that lead under the sandy beach. There are many taverns, bars and shops here, so many that the locals no longer need to travel to the city of Corfu, almost everything can be found at their door! Along the coast is a water park aimed at children of all ages, and then the nature reserve of St. Spyridon, with a lake containing many species of wildlife, a place of great interest to the naturalist Gerald Durrell, who stayed here for a short time.

The square is located right next to the always crowded Liston pedestrian street with its French architecture buildings and many cafes. Liston construction began in 1807 and was completed in 1814 by Napoleon's Imperial French with the sole purpose of housing the then French army. The building was designed by the French architect Lesseps and was implemented with the help of the Greek engineer Ioannis Parmesan. It is a complex of buildings that grow linearly on the west side of Spianada, with ground floor arched galleries that the locals call walks. The name Liston comes from the word "List" which referred to the List of Nobles (Libro dʻOro) since in the old days only the nobles who were written in it had the opportunity to walk in this part of the city. Today the Liston galleries are the most secular part of Corfu and it is the place that gathers the most people. They are full of cafes, restaurants and general catering shops, it is the place that is full of people in winter and summer, and the rents for cafes reached, at least until the financial crisis, astronomical amounts, which explains the expensive prices at this point. . However, the walk in front of the walks (arches) of Liston is something that no one has avoided and coffee in Liston is a daily habit for many Corfiots.

An abandoned medieval village located just below the imposing Pantocrator in a plateau at an altitude of 400 meters that is not visible from anywhere except from the top of the mountain. It is a typical example of how the inhabitants of the Middle Ages built their villages to avoid attacks and looting by pirates. It is full of old stone mansions that show a rich past, so it has acquired archeological value, so in recent years there has been some tourist exploitation with various restaurants such as taverns that have been built there and offer local specialties. The village is visited especially on Sundays, curious about the past, but also foreigners who come to walk on the deserted narrow cobbled streets of the village and see something of the architecture of the medieval villages.
