It was a venue for social events organized by Baltic German and Russian aristocrats, and a bohemian place during the time of the independent Latvian state, when it was occupied by students of the Art Academy. For some time the building was left uncared for, but now Kaņepes Culture Centre is restoring it room by room to bring the soul of this beautiful building back.
