Hands down, the best fish n chips in Port Fairy. Be sure to order early as the wait in summer time can be quite long!

Sightseeing

Port Fairy is a beautiful seaside town with plenty to offer every individual. We recommend a walk along the wharf to see the local fishing boats and walking to the lighthouse on Griffiths Island. Port Fairy also has two lovely beaches - East Beach & South Beach. Depending on the direction of the wind, you should be able to find a calm beach most days of the year! East beach is a long half moon shaped bay and lovely to walk along. South Beach is sheltered from the open ocean by a rock wall and offers excellent rock pooling and a safe place for children to enjoy.
Enjoy a walk out onto Griffiths Island. If your looking for a lovely 4km loop walk we recommend you turn right as you walk onto the island and follow the beach around to the light house. If you are less adventurous or find walking on sand difficult we recommend you head left and follow the formed path out the lighthouse and back. Directly to and from the lighthouse is approx 2km while walking around the whole island is approx 4km. The island is home to a large Shearwater bird colony and therefore dogs are NOT permitted on the island. If you visit the island around dusk between Sept-April you will see the Shearwater birds (Mutton birds) returning to the nests for the night.

Check out the surfers braving the rocky surf break at The Passage. On a wild winters day, the ocean produces a fierce swell that you can watch all day!

Situated halfway between Warrnmabool and Port Fairy is the extinct volcano crater named Tower Hill. A nice spot for a walk among nature, bird watching or a picnic with the emu's!

The foot bridge links the main part of town with the East Beach. A lovely short cut across the river to access Battery Point where the old cannon is fired on special weekends during summer.

Recreation

Port Fairy is a great place for being active! Many locals enjoy a morning walk along the towns two beaches - East Beach or South Beach. The town is very bicycle friendly with bunch rides leaving regularly from Rebecca's cafe or The Roadhouse throughout the week. If you would like to know more about the bunch rides, please just ask. We recommend heading towards Toolong and then Koroit if you are a keen road cyclist, again just ask and we can let you know a good route. Parkrun is also on each Saturday morning at 8am in Russel Clarke Reserve, 900m from Little James.
Situated a 5-minute drive out of town, Port Fairy's golf course is world famous and not to be missed if you are a keen golfer. Be prepared for some wind on top of the sand dunes!!

Perfect for the avid walker, runner or push bike rider. The Rail Trail starts around the corner from Little James in Regent St. The track is very well maintained and ideal for riding a hybird bike or mountain bike, we wouldn't recommend it for road bikes. The first 17.5km of the trail will lead you inland to the town of Koroit, an Irish settlement with a lot of character! There after the trail heads into Warrnambool.
