Vegetarian/Vegan Friendly

Most New Orleans restaurants have at least one decent vegetarian item. These restaurants get vegetarian/vegan right.
We love the vegetarian friendly Bánh mì... or totally loaded tater tots. I love the in-house murals and frozen Irish coffee. Eating at the bar ensures listening to Frenchmen Street's Bamboulas club and excellent people watching. They also have on tap Big Easy Bucha (kambucha) infused with vodka. It's a new business partnership, unique to 13 and Molly's at the Market.

St. Mark's was one of the few churches that permitted funeral services for HIV positive New Orleanians during the 1980's and 1990's. St. Mark's also held the only memorial service after the 1973 Upstairs Lounge. The service remembered the 32 arson fire victims and consoled the devastated, silent, LGBTQIA community. St. Mark's is and was always on the right side of history. Sunday Worship: 10am. St Mark's serves a meal after the service. Call 504-529-8044 for more information and events.

Cool Coffee

Growing up in New Orleans, Star... something wasn't a thing. NOLA has tons of independent, amazing, local coffee shops. Please partake in supporting them.
The Bean Gallery is a terrific people watching spot in MidCity. You can meet up with friends, study, and get terrific coffee with small pastries. If the Bean Gallery gets too loud or busy, Monkey Monkey is down the street.

Cafe' du Monde, 1862, is the original beignet stand well-loved across the world. It's across from Jackson Square and has some of the best people watching in the French Quarter. There is a side window for to go orders. Jazz musicians, street performers, and the occasional telescope appear and disappear on this corner. Tips: don't breathe in the confectionery sugar, the French Quarter location is cash only.

Flora Gallery and Coffee Shop is one of my favorite stops before car touring the Marigny/Bywater murals. The space hosts local works of art and is excellent people watching. It's across the street from Mimi's should your party have a split decision of drinks or no drinks.

Monkey Monkey is a terrific, MidCity coffee house to focus for a few hours on that one task. It isn't as busteling as its neighbor coffee house, The Bean Gallery, and sometimes you need that. Pop your headphones in, knock out your mission, and get back to relaxing.

Neutral Ground Coffeehouse is a non-profit, staffed by volunteers and musicians. This is a music venue, with no alcohol or decaffeinated coffees. It's a quirky space with generally free music shows. Makin' Groceries

Makin' Groceries is a local adaptation from the French translation of shopping for groceries. The phrase was made famous by Schwegmann's, a local grocery chain in the 80's, which was bought out in 1997.

This mighty, little store has supplied French Quarter restaurants with wine and specialty liquors for decades. You read that correctly. If a customer asks for a specialty bottle in the downtown area and the restaurant needs it ASAP, they call Vieux Carre’. You will talk to an owner. This store offers the best service and widest variety hands down.
