Taganana is in the very northeast corner of the island. It’s very rural, wild and unspoilt. There is a choice of beaches there from surfer hotspots full of VW campers and big waves to the very final beach “playa de Benijo”. Park at the top and walk down (there are quite a few steps). The most magical thing about this beach is that is completely changing every few hours with the tide. When the tide is high you have to find your spot on the small bit of beach and wait patiently for the tide to go back in. It’s a wild beach, so there are no services – bring water and snacks and you’ll have an amazing time. After a day at the beach, follow the road up from playa de Benijo to “Casa Paca” – a really typical Canary restaurant run by two older sisters. The food (and wine!) is super cheap, traditional and delicious.
