Shavi Lomi is a legend on the Tbilisi dining scene, not all that big a surprise given that the food here is simply delicious. The cuisine is Georgian fusion and includes treats such as beef in Saperavi wine and beef stew in pomegranate sauce. Another interesting dish, not particularly popular in Georgia, is couscous. As a starter we recommend the Tushetian guda board, and as dessert, homemade apple pie. Their house wine is worth trying too.OpenOpen 12:00 - 24:00.

Barbarestan is a family restaurant. Diners are welcomed by one of the members of a huge (10 children) family and most of them are involved in the restaurant business. The restaurant allows both visitors and Georgians alike to rediscover forgotten treasures of the country’s heritage: the pumpkin patties and cherry soup with mint are our favourites. One word of warning: the restaurant doesn’t serve any beer, but does offer a wonderful selection of kvevri wines, fitting given that the basement is an original 19th century wine cellar; wine is also available by the bottle to go. Live retro Georgian music on Saturday nights from 20:00 to 22:00. Essential: don’t leave Tbilisi without visiting.OpenO

Named after the famous Georgian puppeteer Rezo Gabriadze, this light and airy restaurant is decorated with art and ceramics. It is part of the next-door puppet theatre that stages regular performances of Gabriadze’s innovative and moving plays. The menu is modern Georgian cuisine, putting a new twist on traditional recipes. Speciality dishes include his favourite cornbread bagel with cheese, and meals cooked and served in a shallow pottery pan called a ketsi. Bar is open until 02:00.

The designers obviously worked hard to make this venue stand out. Intentionally created to look like someone's home, but a twisted one... You can choose which room fits your mood - the airy living room with art works on the ceiling or the intimate atmosphere of the bedroom upstairs. The originality of the place and two terraces with a wonderful view of the city at night will make it up to the prices that are not the cheapest. Art- Cafe turns into a dance venue on Fridays and Saturdays.OpenOpen 17:00 - 02:00, Fri, Sat 17:00 - 04:00.

The main room is big and airy with windows all around and regularly changing artwork on the walls, showcasing Georgian and regional artists. All the works are for sale. Renowned Georgian chef and culinary expert Tekuna Gachechiladze claims her restaurant specialises in healthy, “Georgian, anti - hangover cuisine.” Walking into this warmly lit and simply furnished establishment will make you feel instantly at ease, and the kitchen in plain site lends a degree of familiarity and friendly comfort to the atmosphere. Though the menu is not large and the price tag not small, choose from a number of exquisitely prepared dishes influenced by European and Georgian cuisine. The chef herself recommends khinkali soup as the perfect solution to an aching head. The restaurant opens at 8 on weekends and stays open until 2 in the morning.OpenOpen 10:00 - 02:00, Sat, Sun 08

A café, which also serves meals, located in a Tbilisian apartment with high ceilings and wooden floors and an open kitchen. It is bright and stylish, yet unpretentious. The cuisine is international and their specialties are tartines, wraps, and omelettes. It's one of the rare places to serve traditional Georgian lemonade, Laghidze. To the sweet-toothed among you we recommend Moda's chocolate cake. The service is great, it's non-smoking inside and has ten more cosy little tables in a garden outside. A must-visit if you are in the Vake district.OpenOpen 11:00 - 01:00.

In the tough days of Perestroika and the early years of independence, the Dry Bridge is where hard-up citizens of Tbilisi would come to sell their possessions in order to make a little cash. For some people that is still the case today, though for others this is their main business. Also called the Mother Fortress of Tbilisi, Narikala is an ancient symbol of Tbilisi’s defence. The fortress was established in the 4th century, around the period when the city itself was founded. It was then known as Shuris-tsikhe (Invidious Fort). The name Narikala is said to derive from a Persian word for citadel, but another theory says was the name that Mongols used, meaning “little fortress”. It was expanded considerably by the Arabs during the 7th and 8th centuries. The Arabs built the Emir’s palace within its walls. King David further extended the Builder the fortress in th 11th century. Most of the existing fortifications date from the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1827 it was damage

Founded in August 2014 Bassiani marked the beginning of a completely different attitude towards nightlife in Tbilisi. The club is located in the basement of Dinamo Stadium, is spacious but somewhat sombre, and strictly forbids flash photography. It's the first venue in Tbilisi that regularly invites acclaimed techno musicians from around the world, and while Bassiani doesn't have regular opening hours (that would be just too mainstream) it usually announces upcoming events (on its website) well in advance. Admission varies from event to event. To be able to purchase tickets on presale it's necessary to first register.

Not a year has passed since this place opened and already g.Vino is a legend on the Tbilisi wine scene. Why? Easy: its knowledgeable and kind staff serve good wine and wonderful food, all in a lovely, relaxed atmosphere surrounded by somewhat unique decorations. Wine lovers in particular will be in heaven here, but foodies will not be disappointed. From cold cuts and cheese to accompany your wine to more substantial dishes (try the croquettes and grilled vegetable salad). All wines here are ecologically sound, most being made in kvevri by small wineries, where each batch never exceeds more than 1000 bottles. There are always a number of wines to try by the glass: the selection differs each
